I stopped by the local branch of Ali Babba, and his forty thieves (the LGS) yesterday to pick up the 13-2 I've had on layaway for a month or so.

When I walked in the guy behind the counter said, "We've been waiting for you. We got some stuff you might be interested in."

They had a nickeled airweight J frame in a box (but not the correct box.) That one was from '58 I believe we figured. Just a slight turn ring. I'm not sure the model number...I think it was a 36-37? I'm not up on "J" Frames. Oh they had another J frame, 38, with a 3" barrel too.

Then they had a 27-2, 6", nickel, in the (correct) box), with papers on consignment. Very nice. Not NIB condition, but nice.

And a Model 57, 6", nickel, in the box. I didn't ask to see that one...I was afraid to. But it too was a really nice gun.

AND...A 19-4, blue, in the box, with all the papers, probably unfired, or at least I couldn't find any evidence of it. Just a slight turn ring...

I was gnawing my knuckles off by now. I have promised myself, and my wife, that I was only going to buy ONE more gun "for a while." The one I had been looking for a couple of years. A mundane, Ruger 10/22 with the Manlincher stock. Been looking for one and just never seem to find one.

While I was waiting on the background check, I told my wife I going to check the 22 rack.

There was a 10/22 with a Manlincher stock.
(that one got put on layaway...sigh...I never have one not on layaway it seems.)

So, you have a gun waiting for you to pay off constantly, and your wife doesn't mind? Don't think you'll get a lot of sympathy .

I think you got them right. One was a 36, and the other a 37.

My wife doesn't mind. She just makes sure she's up to speed on what they'll sell for when I check out..

I'm in the same boat as far as not buying any more guns for "a while"...

When I bought the last 2 recently, (a 1971 19-3, 4" and a new S&W 1911 E-Series) she said, "I thought you were done buying guns for a while!" (I did buy a used but like new 629 Classic 6'5" back in October)... SO I replied, "you just need to have your "AWHILE-Guage" recalibrated!" LOL!!! Strangely, she found my observation to be neither accurate, nor funny...

Cajun, I can identify with your condition; I have it also; only not as long as you have been suffering.

My first S&W revolver was a 15-3 purchased this past July. After getting acquainted with this website I quickly became drawn to the local gun stores here in north & central east Florida. By year's end I had ten more plus a couple of Colts. My wife expressed concern that I was looking like a "survialist", or perhaps taking us to the poor house.

Not wishing to become a collector, just a shooter with a dozen Smiths to master on the range, I swore to myself that I had enough and no need for more in 2012.

Last week it was a Model 66-2 and today a sweet little 2" 15-4 - both of which were really a good deal (they truly were). Enough already I say to myself.

For a long time now I've wanted a M21. No, not a S&W, a Winny. I want one with a short barrel, 26" with IC & M. And I want one with a beavertail foreend. I'll take one with a recoil pad, but I'd prefer it be just checkered wood, as Gawd had intended. When I find them, I don't have money. When I have the money, I can't find one. Its kind of like deer hunting. When they're in season, you've got the license and the gun along, and they can't be found anywhere. But when you're just walking in the woods, they're everywhere. Even just walking in the local park, you almost stumble over them.

I'm guessing its a little different problem, but one of the above posters probably hit it on the head. Our wife needs to have a way to recover our gambling loss after we depart. With luck our purchasing doesn't lead to our demise at the hands of the angry spouse.

And this depression thing needs to be turned to our advantage. A year ago after my heart surgery, I asked what I felt was a very logical and important question. I asked the cardiologist how long I was going to live. I felt it was pertinent because I kind of wanted to know how to plan. Should I be dumping all my guns now or would I have 10 more years or what. His next question was "would you like me to prescribe anti-depressants?" I wasn't depressed, I was kind of elated to be alive. But you guys have no idea (or maybe you do) how much help for any depression a brand new-to-you gun will buy!

So my advice to you guys who stumble upon great guns is to make hay while the sun shines. You will eventually encounter the drought, where all you see are plastic guns in the stores. Or just as bad, guns of lesser quality than the ones you already own. And not the ones you lust for.

No, they're not holding any others for me. Just the 10/22. All those I mentioned at first are too rich for my blood these days. They like them a LOT.

I hope to actually pick up the 13-2 later today (now). I got tired of waiting for my background check to come back so my wife and I went on home. Here lately the Virginia "instant background check" system is measured in geologic time.

It's a sickness that cannot be easily cured my friend. I told my better half that i too was done for awhile, after i purchased my 28-2 w/ 4" bbl
just 3 weeks ago. But i now have a 19-2 with a 2 1/2 " bbl coming. Hey, i don't drink, "much" or smoke, so guns are my vice of choice.

I've really had a couple of good years adding to the collection, so my "list" is getting shorter. Said I wasn't going to buy anything else until after our taxes are done in mid February.

Anyhow, went into my favorite pusher's place (LGS) just to BS. No handguns I really wanted, nothing in the rifle rack either. Counter guy says " I know you don't buy many rifles, but I think this is right up your alley." and hands me a 97% or so condition Remington 541T HB .22 LR with Leupold rings and bases. The 541 has been on my list for years. Pricey beast that never shows up in my area. Laid it away. Two days later I find the only S&W pistol still on my want list, a 4566 through a private seller. I may end up banished to the tool shed.

I don't know of any LGS around here who has those kind of goodies available but have not really been looking that hard. To keep my disease in remission I have only been trading, not adding and FTF's save a lot of shipping & FFL dollars as well as not letting the camel put his nose under my tent. That said, I peruse the classified sections here daily.

Thank you Cajun for the 19-4 tip. It is currently in route to my local FFL/LGS. $20 for the FFL transfer tomorrow and I'll be posting some pics!!! The Combat Magnum Model 19 was on my top 1 to purchase nest. I love this forum..

You're welcome Mike. I just hope you're as impressed with it as I was. If I hadn't had that 13-2 on layaway, I'd have probably put it away myself.
