where are all the M16s?

Before I got my M&P sport I was actually looking for a M16 style
rifle but couldn't find any. So why is this? Why doesn't S&W offer a M16 style? M4gys are everywhere but M16gys are few and far between.

I found a DPMS A2 yesterday at my lgs for 549 $.
My Vietnam buddy us buying it for sentimental purposes.

First off you cannot buy an M16, you must be referring to an ar 15. While they may be a little hard to find but with a little searching you can find them.

Where I am at AR15's are selling for $600 used. And the lgs has plenty!!

You can assemble an A2 style rifle. Buy the appropriate A2 lower build kit & top it off with a 20" upper.
