If I removes the barrel myself, how hard would it be to thread it on a lathe? My brother has access to one at work. So do I just tell him to thread it at 1/2x28 and the machine will take care of it or does it actually involve some degree of skill? I'm asking cuz I don't know how those lathes work.
The main thing is to indicate the bore, not the muzzle.
Any machinist should be able to machine threads on a tube; it is not difficult at all. They should machine the threads within .050 of the shoulder. Do not machine an undercut.
So long as the machinist knows how to run a machine, you don't need to.
