Where did all the night guard models go?

I was looking for night guards in various calibers but don't seem to find any new ones made anymore. The all steel 629/627 PC look a bit heavy. and the 329/327 look kind of large. the j frame stuff is only 5 rounds & look kind of small. Wouldn't you say the night guards were just right? Will s&w ever bring them back in production?

They're out there, keep looking. Usually at a premium, so be prepared. Don't let one slip through your fingers haggling over a couple hundred dollars.

I really like my 325 Night Guard in 45ACP. I would love to have one in 44 Magnum as well. They are the perfect big bore carry gun.

Just picked up a 386 here in the classifieds. There was a couple on gun broker also, but not sure if they sold or not.

For me the 386 was theeee perfect nightguard model. 7 shots, L frame so still conceal able, 2.5" barrel, night sight, and whatever else I'm forgetting.

If all goes as planned it's getting cut for moon clips and getting full action/trigger job.

To me the 315 was the perfect nightguard model. 6 shot Kframe .38.

Night Guards were Discontinued in 2012. Great concept, they were just too expensive. Unless you are a dedicated revolver person, why buy a 6 to 8 shot revolver for $900 when you can buy a dead nuts reliable 15 shot 9mm for $500. I however, own two Night Guards and love them. I also own a 386PD 7 shot 357 that weighs 18.9 ozs. It's the same as the 386 Night Guard but a titanium frame. Both have had action work done on them.

I have a safe full of 9mm as do others I'm sure. My best carry 9mm is a 10+1 fully worked cz rami. The round profile of the j-frame just works when I'm working all day. I carry A IWB. The square profile of the rami makes it uncomfortable. Also, loaded the rami is over 30oz, j frame 23oz. If I'm going to carry a j-frame all week at work I figure why not carry the 7 shot 386 while not at work. Plus I get justification to buy a new gun.

Just my reasoning. Oh, and the fact. 357 magnums are well, 357 magnums. 9mm has plus and minus too.... Not trying to start 'that' debate. Lol.

Older S&W Model 12 is pretty much the same thing and Colt Cobra offers 6 shots as well. Both are pretty expensive but worth it, if you can find a good one.

Don't lose hope, I found my Model 357 .41 Mag Nightguard not too long ago. I paid 750.00 Brand New In The Box.

Night Guard lovers would say so, but many didn't. They had flaws but they were unique. New retail prices were the killer.

Just got my 327 NG cut for moonies now waiting on a lefthanded holster.
You don't see many of them for sale those that have them tend to hang onto them.

I suspect that they were functionally too close to the cheaper, if not as aesthetic, carry revolvers.

I bought the first S&W 325 AirLite 45 I ever saw. It has served me well. Easy and comfortable to carry, accurate, and kicks like a mule. Love the moon clips. Recoil may keep it from being popular with lots of folks... but lots of power in a lite weight N Frame. I have noticed they are hard to find and the used ones are more expensive than I paid for mine. Suspect the prices will continue to go up. If you find one and it fits your personal situation, jump on it.

Where did all the Night guards go?

One came to live with me! After growing to love my 329PD I became enamored with the thought of also owning a 329NG. I even emailed Smith and Wesson begging for the reintroduction of the line as I was a poor deputy when them were offered and could not afford one. I did get a reply from Smith but I failed to create a movement for their return. Fortunately I was blessed to find one on-line and it is a treasured possession. (Also found another 329PD, Love these firearms!

I recently passed on one at the LGS in about 95% condition for $750. By the time I came to my senses and went back to buy it, it had gone bye-bye. I'm still kicking myself.

There's a brand new 386 On Gun Broker right now, but I don't have the money. I suppose I could sell something and get the money... but I don't like getting rid of guns. Only acquiring them...
