I have a nickel plated S&W that could use some sprucing up. I hear a lot of good things about Flitz polish but when I went to Lowes, no one ever heard of it. They did have a product for polishing truck boxes called Diamond Brite. Can anybody tell me who would carry Flitz and is Diamond Brite comparable or a whole different product? Also, does Flitz some as a liquid, paste, on a cloth or..?

Thanks,

Bill

I found it at Ace hardware and many auto parts stores. It is a thick liquid, not a paste. White plastic bottle, large blue lettering, the size of a wide toothpaste container.

If you can't find Flitz specifically, any auto supply store will have essentially the same thing in various chrome and/or mag wheel polishes. Mother's Mag Polish is a good one, and there are numerous others. I think you could generically call them "micro-abrasive" polishes.

+1 for Mother's

Simichrome also works well. Just remember, all these polishing products are abrasive and will damage/remove nickel if used too aggressively. Use a very light touch and polish carefully. For a really gorgeous final polish us a Selvyt polishing cloth (not impregnated with a polishing agent).

Mother's mag polish is great stuff especialy on stainless. But it warns on the label not to use on plated items.I'd try flitz or brasso.

1HAWKEYE ,

Thanks for that warning.

I am familiar with Brasso. Is it as effective as Flitz?

Thanks,

Bill
