Hello everyone ,

just thought i would pick everyone's brain about where you carry, and if anyone gives you **** about it. I've been carrying my gun
around the house (open) on my hip, while i do yard work, cut the grass, anything around the house. At first my wife gave me **** about it, she didn't like it, she thought it was silly that i carried while doing these tasks. anyone else have this problem with the ol lady.

also i recently had it on me when i took my dogs for a walk, i had come across a few people that didn't seem to have a care in the world ( witch was fine with me id rather not get hassled for it), but i have yet to attempt taking it in stores or down town with me. (and i'm not looking for the hassle, i just want to be able to practice the rights that we have, and practice them the way we should be able to)

my wife has become more comfortable with it, she even wants to take a cpl class next moths ( excited about), and honestly I think its the best for both of us if firearm is going to be in the house.

This is my first personal gun i have ever owned. I've shot plenty of firearms in the past and understand the importance of safety and such. This would be my first hand gun that actually belongs to me and its mine.

any thoughts

thanks

I live in the people's republic of NY and many here are totally paranoid about guns in general. The only time I open carry is at the range or afield, hunting or taking a nice hike in the woods. There are literally hundreds of hiking trails or old logging roads and you can do plenty of walking

As far as where I go "packing" just about any place its legal (state, county, Feds buildings are totally off limits). Banks ,bars/restaurants/churches no legal problem.

The key word here is concealed and if you do it right no one knows you are. FWIW I got my hard to get CCWP in 1972 and have a lot of time carrying and no one is the wiser. Heck with my .380 Body guard in a pocket holster even my wife cannot spot it though for years I carried a full sized 1911. Being a big bulky guy helps make that kind of easy.
:D

I got my CCP here in Pa. in 1978; at that time the sole reason I got it was to carry concealed when hiking. I use to spend a lot of weekends hiking around our cabin in the Allegheny Mts. I had been open carrying for about 4 years...... but wanted to be more low profile.

These days I carry concealed almost every day; where legal, as the world has become a lot different over the past 35 years........

I dress around what I carry; revolver in the woods.... auto in the city/burbs. I carry concealed 99.9% of the time..... except if I'm also carrying a rifle/hunting.

While I have a right to open carry ....... I don't see the need to......why upset the "neighbors" or have someone call the police about a man with a gun.......who needs that hassle.

Just make sure you know where it is legal in YOUR state. Here in Wyoming, bars and churches are off limits. Restaurants including those that serve alcohol are ok.

Personally, I would not open carry in public unless that is the only alternative. It is legal in several states (including mine), but the local LEOs will pay you lots of attention of the unpleasant kind until they figure out you are one of the good guys. It also seems to me to be an invitation for someone to snatch the gun away from you. Also, it annoys your wife, so why do that when you don't have to? :)

If you have a Michigan CCW permit, practice with concealing and drawing your new gun (not to mention shooting it for practice), and call it good.

while open carry is not allowed in texas, i would not anyway because the bad guy's will take you out first. you being a threat to their bad behavoir. my two cents worth.

all good things guys thanks. yeah for now this is the only alternative i have. I don't live in the worst area for crime, but i don't live far from it either. inkster, south field and some of my surrounding Detroit areas have higher crime rate than i would like. I'm not worried about the neighbors, the guy behind me conceal carries 3 at a time. and really if i was that neighbor i think i would feel a little more secure( just my thought) but that is my plan to get my cpl and than not have to worry about it. (again i'm not trying to upset or scare anyone just practicing what we should all be able to practice), and your right things have changed due to the recent and unfortunate shootings these past years.

yeah i believe its the same in Michigan only if you have your cpl.

and as for the ol lady, not worried about her. happy wife, happy life

thanks everyone

what!!!!!! i thought texas everyone carried and open carried. or concealed. the entire state this entire time i thought was like a requirement to open carry from birth. ............

have i been wrong this entire time

As a retired Federal Agent, I CCW everywhere I am allowed to by law. The only times I open carry is when I am at the range or in the desert, outside of Las Vegas proper.

It is legal here in Nevada to open carry, but I feel that open carry gives away any tactical advantage I might have on an adversary. If a bad guy doesn't know I'm armed, then I have that advantage. If he sees that I am open carry, I might be his first target.

OPEN CARRY

I see absolutely no reason or advantage to open carry unless you are in the field hunting or on a large private property farm or ranch, unless you just need/ crave the attention and want to be viewed as Billy bad *zz.

no attention needed, being as extremely good looking as i am
i get enough looks and attention as it is. (Just saying) lol

and as for billy na, just strictly to protect my wife my self and my dogs. that is it. and ya know i don't do it all the time just every so often

but i understand what everyone is saying about the disadvantage, and or down fall of open carry. doesn't really give you the upper hand if its ever needed.

Here in NY, open carry is against the law. We are a concealed-carry state.
That makes it pretty easy for me to decide how to carry. ;)

I'm not a big fan of open carry anyway.

JUST STICTLY TO PROTECT?

And c/c would accomplish the same thing, only better because you have the element of surprise, without disturbing non gun lovers. o/c can also attract a sneak attack mugging by someone that wants your gun. there's just no benefit.

Hangnoose certainly hit it on the head! Open carry gives us one little advantage that most folks dont consider. If your jacket bulges or the bottom of your holster peeks out, its ok in a open carry state while many conceal carry states consider "printing" not to be concealed carry. When I was 27 with a CCW in NY, I was waiting in line at a cash register when a plainclothes officer said "step out of line and keep your hands in plain sight" since he had made me.I nervously showed him my permit and was shaken up.

In anti gun states, open carry can get you in trouble or to say the least unkind looks from the public.
I live in Arkansas and the local LEO's carry open on their belt with no badge next to it and I consider that in such poor taste.Four young unshaven fellows with guns on their belts,no badges does not make for a comfortable environment at the local eatery!!!Even if you are in a hot climate, buy a short sleeve shirt in "Tall" and one size larger and wear it untucked and you can conceal most full sized pistols!!!

I dont see an advantage of OC so I conceal carry everywhere where its legal to do so. I started carrying when i was 21 and my parents gave me a bit of grief about it at first but that was 13 years ago. Im not married so i dont have problems with that end.

I can OC or CC, and I know that OC makes people nervous. Not so much if I am decked out in hunting clothes, but in street clothes I think someone would call the cops.

Why create the turmoil? Get your concealed permit and enjoy flying under the radar. ;)

.

I CC everywhere. I am too afraid these days that fragile peeps will flip if they even catch a glimpse of a gun out if the corner of their eye.

If you're carrying concealed without a permit you are leaving yourself open for BIG trouble, unless the laws are different in Michigan. Maybe I misunderstood but that is how I interpret your post. As far as myself, I carry everywhere I can legally carry. If I'm out the door of my house, I'm carrying. Walking, yard work, any outdoor activity. We have open carry in OK, but I don't practice it. To me the main benefit, as has already been mentioned by Haris1, is not having to worry about printing or someone seeing it & being charged with "brandishing" .

I live in the fifth most gun-friendly state in the Union. Open carry is legal and I have a CCW license. I never carry openly. Almost all the people I see doing it here, other than folks working, hunting or fishing on their own land, are Wally World Commandos trying to impress everyone with their badassitude.

I don't step out my apartment door unarmed; but there is no advantage, and there are all kinds of disadvantages, to open carry for me. If nothing else I've seen little kids (not all of them boys) freaking out their moms by asking to see someone's gun who is carrying openly. Who needs it?

I could legally go out in public dressed as an aardvark (I have the nose for it), but everyone would think I was crazy. Carrying my M10-5 on my hip on the street might make them afraid I was crazy.

Iowa is a concealed carry "shall issue" state but it is also perfectly legal to open carry with PCW....I don't. I have no desire to get unwanted attention from a hoplophobe who decides to get crazy after spotting a legal carry gun. If someone starts yelling "He's got a gun"! you can find yourself in a hassle. You probably walk away OK but who needs it.

If I'm in a C-store when it gets robbed, my open carry might get me shot right off. If I'm concealed my focus is to protect myself, wife and kids if necessary....not to take down the perp!

George Zimmerman would be much happier if he hadn't confronted TM. He should have stayed in his car and called 911 again if necessary. Hero wannabes have been prosecuted in the past. Who needs that?
