Where is all the stuff we want to buy ????

Infiltrator, your a gent and also made two new friends there.

Normally when I finally get around to an ammo counter--im the only one there wanting ammo--usually a few others are there just to pay for the non gun items they have. Most of the time I do not get lucky and get the real goodies because its all sold out at 6am--and im NOT getting up early just to stand in line for ammo. I get lucky frequently often when going to Academy--but my trips to Academy are rarer than WM because of the travel time to and from. A few days ago I was in Wm again--and had already figured that everything I wanted was long since sold out but figured I would look anyway. Well, lo and behold--when I got there-there were at least 20 boxed of 555 .22 rounds as well as all popular cartridge sizes. As of yesterday-they still had several promotional boxes of .40 for around $90? I didnt really pay a lot of attention to prices on stuff I have no guns to feed them with. Well, all the promo 22 long since sold--but the 40 has not. Also, they regularly get in and stays in stock for days--many boxes of 7.62, and others but still in short supply ans shelf duration--.45 and .357. Oh and I noticed the .380 stuff isnt selling out like it had been and the same number of boxes I saw a couple weeks ago-are still there.

For the past several weeks I have been stopping in at the local GM on Thursday mornings at 9:00 when the doors open. I have been shut out, but usually I am able to pick up a couple hundred rounds of .22lr. On occasion I could buy more, but refrain, in part because I don't want to be that guy, and in part because it is still a bit overpriced. This week, I could have taken 10 bricks of CCI, but one was enough for me at the price.

Last week I was in Wal-Mart so I walked back to sporting goods, my wife want with me which was strange. They had about 15 boxes of 50 round CCI 22 lr. limit 3 boxes to a customer. I got 3 boxes and my wife got 3 boxes. I stayed there looking at target and gun cleaning stuff. When I decided to go find the wife I noticed a different clerk behind the counter soooooo I got 3 more boxes. Now I have a total inventory of 450 rounds of 22 lr. plus a 333 pack reserved for the grandkids when they visit. I don't hoard, I shoot what I have and buy when I can find it.

When I was a boy I would collect pop bottles along the road; the bottles where worth $.02 each. I could exchange the pop bottles for 22 lr shells, they worth a penny each.

The factories are operating around the clock

What I don't understand is why so many things never reach the store of if they do they are in dribs and drabs that get bought up instantly. I figure all the stuff the factories are churning out is going into a great big hole somewhere.

I am also of the belief that this will eventually subside.
Probably 2016. The people with the "grab all you can now"
attitude and the speculators who don't even shoot, or in some
cases don't even have guns, are driving the market right now.
I do have "plenty" as i started stocking up on components and
rimfire ammo as soon as Barry O. took office the first time.
I bought a little every payday. Either a brick or two of .22's or
a pound of powder or a thousand primers.
The hand writing was on the wall for all to see.
Like i said, i believe it will eventually subside but i firmly do not
believe that prices will be back to pre-Barry O. levels.
The cat has been let out of the bag and it ain't going back in.
People will continue to buy the ammo/components they need
at current price levels so why would the distributors/manufacturers
drop prices to pre-panic levels ? You're not gonna buy ammo
in 2014 at the 2007 price levels.
If you see what you need priced "reasonably" i would suggest
you buy a little and not hold out and hope it comes back to pre-panic
levels.
Another thing that would help is if everyone quit buying the product
that is priced at double and triple pre-panic level.
But some need the ammo/components and it's either (pay or no play) for some.

You must shoot a lot more than me to need 200 rounds every week..

same here. All I want is what I really need and I dont want to seem like a hog of it all--even though I have had that opportunity a few times. However, when Academy was doing that 1 box per thing--now is two boxes per--I always managed to get two boxes anyway--BECAUSE of the trouble I have in getting to the store as well as travel time.

Guys, it's .22 ammo; no need to get all worked up over it.

I dont see anyone here getting worked up about it. All I see is someone taking the time to report on something many find interesting which can be valuable information. Nothing more, nothing less.

Tennis anyone??

What I find interesting is--why is WM always not getting in shipments of ammo--when Academy gets it in daily except on Sunday and Mondays??? Half the time I go to WM--im told they did not get a shipment in--when Academy got a shipment in. I am fully aware they may have different Distributors but--somehow--I dont believe that WM gets shafted on ammo deliveries as much as they claim. On that--I really dont care because I know where I can get ammo if I want it? and pay a dollar or two more than at WM.

Flat out-I refuse to buy from those who double and triple prices-that of WM and Academy prices. A few months ago-or actually back in Feb when a Gun show was here in town--a guy offered me a "good deal" on approx 75 loose rounds of 9mm for $75.00. I said: "No thank you" and turned to leave. He quickly dropped the price to $45.00. Again I said: "No thank you" and the price dropped to $35. I said not interested and walked away. Earlier that day, I have picked up three boxes of 50 Winchester 9mm for about $40 and change. I will not buy reloads from a person I dont know--let alone reloads with extremely dirty and or partly corroded shell casing like of what he was offering for sale.

Most of the time, I find what I set out to get-caliber wise. Im about to start buying .45 and 357--because of the next two guns I intend buying.

I thought for a while it was just hoarding by those willing to snap up incoming inventory.

However, in the last couple of weeks, three stores of long-standing stature have related that they can't even get any .22 ammo, except a tiny dribble.

It's not just hoarding. Someday we will know.

Regards,

Dyson
