Where to buy X-Frame Grips?

I want a pair of Hogue X-Frame grips for my 629 Mountain Gun but cant seem to find them for sale anywhere. Anybody know where to order them from?

I just realized you said X frame but you have a 629 - that is a N frame not a X frame.

I just realized you said X frame but you have a 629 - that is a N frame not a X frame.

Dont know about N frames but my 500Magnum (X frame) grips fit well on my L frame 686. So of L and N frames are interchangable then the X frame should fit. Oh, and I believe the grip portion of the X is the same as the K as well

FYI, the X Frame Hogue grips will fit K/L/N frame round butt guns. I hoping to order from other than S&W as their price seems about 50% higher than regular Hogue grips from anybody else.

If you leave them on an N frame for too long the rubber (santoprene or whatever Hogue uses) will stretch and no fit so well on the K/L frame so well. I bought my X frame rubber for my 629 and it works great. After a few years though it won't fit well at all on my K frame.

First, the following assumes that your model 29 has a round butt grip frame. I would suggest that you confirm if your example has a round or square butt grip frame. If you don't know the difference, both Hogue and S&W's web store have pictures that clearly illustrate the difference between a round or square butt grip frame.

Specifically, the K, L, and X frame round butt grip frames are identical. The N frame is the odd duck, reach from the "nest" at the top of the backstrap is 1/8 inch longer on the N frames.

With a rubber grip the difference between the N frame and the others doesn't amount to enough to worry about. However, with wood grips that difference does matter.

As for where to find grips for your model 29, there are lots and lots of sources. Hogue, Pachmayr, Ahrends, and S&W's web store are the top sources that come immediately to my mind.

Now, if you are specifically looking for the Hogue Tamer monogrip for the 500 Magnum, there is just one source currently. That is the S&W web store, by agreement with Hogue it appears that S&W is the only retailer for this particular grip. I'll also warn you that this particular grip may not fit perfectly on an N frame. I tried this grip on my model 610 and it showed a gap at the top along the backstrap. Since I felt that gap might cause it to eventually crack due to flexing the rubber, I instead installed a set of Pachmayr Decelerators that fit perfectly and feel very similar.

I have them on two N frames and they work great. The only place I found them was from S&W

I have them on 2 625's and a 686, I bought them from S&W.
Speed Shooters Specialties listed them for a while but were the same price as S&W, SSS no longer has them though.

Thanks for the info, but you really only had to include the info above in your post. If you would have read my posts you would have seen I have a 629 Mountain gun, which only came with a RB and that I am looking specifically for the X Frame Hougue grips.

Order them direct from Smith. I have them om my Mountain Gun and they work great. They are X-frame, but they do fit the N frame.

My N frame is wearing the black X frame round butt conversion stocks. It took a little finessing for a good fit, and I didn't remove any material. 10 to 1 better feel than the Pachys
