Cle Elum is an Indian word that means last place to pee.
Oh, maybe thats Wenatchee!
I would ask at the local sporting goods store.

Best,
Rick

Perhaps those do mean that but the real last place to pee, or maybe the first, is Ellensburg. ;)

I have been to Cle Elum during apple harvest time. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt, won't be back. ......... :-)

There are a couple of clubs near Ellensburg. I don't know any near Cle Elum, but there probably is one or more. The problem with shooting in some of the random locations in Kittitas County is that for at least half of the year the woods and grass are so dry that the fire risk from almost any activity can be very high. There are also a lot of dead trees from the beetle infestation that just need to burn for the health of the forest, increasing the risk. IIRC, the last little fire (not the big one started by lightning) up there was started by recreational shooters not being very attentive.

You probably won’t get a straight answer to your question on a open forum like this. Several shooting spots in Kittitas County have been trashed by yahoos and folks are reluctant to broadcast their special spots to the world. Case in point is Durr Rd near Ellensburg. Go into 3 Forks Ammo and ask them your question. Good luck.

A pal of mine in high school had family in Cle Elum, and we used to go into the hills north of town to shoot. Maybe you can't do that any more.

As Baggy Wrinkle says, there has been some really dumb stuff done by idiots, and it has impacted the ability to simply find isolated areas in which to shoot. The fire risk for parts of the year is also staggering (for the folks not familiar with the area, this is mostly high desert; Cle Elum is not as dry as parts closer to Ellensburg, but it is dry).

Now if you asked about placed to ride a dirt bike, I might be able to help you. But now that I think about it, all the places I used to go are probably closed down now.

If it's anything like around here you won't be finding a spot to shoot in the Nat'l Forest, any state land or timber company property.

Just too many ne'er-do-wells dumping garbage and junk cars on the property. It's all been gated and locked. I had to join a private club to shoot.
