Where were you?

Sophomore chemistry class. Mr Meyer came in late and told us the President had been shot. He is maybe the last of my hs teachers to still be living. He was a couple of years ago.

I was a six-year old kid living in Germany with my family while my Dad was stationed there while in the Army.

We lived in military housing and I remember the twin older girls who lived upstairs, Lily and Dori, and their mother crying so hard after we heard Kennedy had been assassinated.

My Mom told me they were Catholic and Kennedy was the first Catholic US President.

That is the first memory in my life of a public tragedy.

I was a teacher at that time and had a 2nd after school job. I was at
that job when my wife and my Dad picked me up to go home. They
had heard it on the radio. It was all over the radio. If I am remembering
correctly it was a Friday.

Next day of course it was all over the tv. We watched as they moved
Oswald from the PD to a more secure location. Jack Ruby stepped out
of the crowd and shot Oswald with his Colt Cobra.

It was a sad time indeed. Jack Kennedy was loved by Replublicans
and Democrats.

I think I was in the 7th grade when the Principle announced it over the PA system in every class. My mother and sister cried watching the funeral.

JFK death

Third grade class was interrupted by the principal who announced the President's demise. The class hot-head shouted,

"Rockefeller did it!".

A few kids laughed nervously; most thought the joke in poor taste. Little did we realize this was the first example of conspiracy theories that persist to this day.

Hard to believe its been 53 years. The 3 things that I will always remember that moment I first heard....

Kennedy's assassination
Charles Whitman in the UT tower
World Trade Center and Pentagon

I was actually in downtown Dallas on a job interview that day, but on the east end. The assassination took place on the west end of downtown. The strange thing is that I had no idea Kennedy was even in town until all hell broke loose.

Thanks all for your stories of a moment in history that should never be forgotten... Thankfully, we here remember. I've made it a point to watch the news today and I haven't seen mention of the Kennedy Assassination yet!

In formation outside Photographer's Mate "A" School at NAS Pensacola FL. IIRC, the formation was called for purpose of passing the news, which the assistant POIC of the class, whatever they called him, passed to the class. Probably read about Ruby's killing Oswald in the newspaper.

I was fourth grade, I got permission to go to the bathroom And when I came out the Catholic church next to the school was ringing the church bells, And I was wondering what the heck was going on.
As soon as the buses could get to us we went home, Nov 22nd was also my Dads birthday....

5th grade . Little school in Idaho north of Boise. 3 classes in same room. Ms. Martz got called out of the room. came back in crying. Told us what happened. I was shocked. Sent us home. Buses came for those that rode. I walked home in the 4" snow about a half-mile. Don't remember about Mom.
When Ruby shot oswald, I was outside and watching our tiny B&W thru the "NEW" picture-window. I thought "GOOD".
John- John's b-day is the same as mine. Will never forget hin saluting his Dad.
I'm certainly not a Democrat, but I have learned a lot about him since then. I still like JFK.

Freshman year HS English class. It was after lunch and we waited in the hall for some 20 minutes till the English teacher showed up. He was very upset as he let us in to the class room. He told us what he knew at the time once we were all seated and quiet. We finished off the school day but very little got done.
You got to wonder where "We" would be as a nation had it not happened. Would we have gotten as involved in VN as we did - that there effected may of us on this forum. What would have a second JFK term accomplished? Questions with out answers.

I was attending kindergarten at St. Columbanus Catholic school in Chicago.

I remember expressing the desire to shoot Lee Harvey Oswald with an MP-40. Obviously I never got the chance...

I was in 4th grade class. They sent all 6 grades and kindergarten out to recess while they decided how to proceed with getting busses to get us home. I remember weird clouds and birds doing thing that I have not seen since. Granger, Utah November 23, 1963.

November 22 is my birthday. In 1963 the adults were crying or sad, no happy birthdays, no cake, just tears from Mom, aunts, grandmother and Walter Cronkite. JFK to the best of my determination would not allow US ground troops in Vietnam. My speculation is that we would have not been there in sufficient numbers for the Tet offensive and Marvin the ARVN would have folded.
