Where's the Love for the Model 13?

Several years ago (before prices got crazy) I was lucky enough to find and buy two 3-inch Model 13's, just a few months apart. Both came with the standard roundbutt magna stocks and both are in +95% condition.

I kept the magna stocks but replaced them with Ahrends which I like the look and feel of. The top one in the pic below is a 13-3 and the bottom one is a 13-4. I keep one in the safe and the other does duty as a bedside gun....I switch them up ever so often. :)

13's in high condition don't show up for sale very often. Many were duty guns that saw a lot of use. I posted pics of mine some time ago. As I have said many times, I love fixed sight magnums. I'll post new pics of my newly obtained M-60 soon in another thread.

Not any more; Smith has the 2.75-inch barreled Model
66 with full length ejector rod and front lockup within
the yoke area. Of course, one might not like the newer
types of Smiths.

I'd be inclined to buy one of the new model K-frame 357's with a 2 3/4 inch barrel if it came with a fixed rear sight. Currently, they are only adjustable sight 19/66 versions and I prefer a fixed sight on a carry/defensive handgun.

Something I think Smith easily could do without
any great amount of retooling.

I've posted this Model 13 before. This was my last issued revolver prior to my agency's switch to bottom feeders.

I was issued a Model 66-1, 2.5 inch, a Model 66-2, 4 inch and the model 13. The Model 13 was, by far, my favorite issued revolver. We ordered them with the round butt target (banana) grips and they were extremely comfortable. We also had S&W roll mark our agency seal on the side plate.

This is my favorite M13 I've ever seen... A blued round butt with Banana's...

This is my favorite M13 I've ever seen... A 3" bull barreled, blued round butt, K-frame with Banana's... It doesn't get much better than this hardware package for a self defense or service firearm!

I have owned a blue 3" M13 and rebuilt two blue 4" M13s. I bought the 3"er for $75 when I was working in a pawn shop/gun store. It was blue worn, but shot great. The ex got that one. :( I bought the two 4" stripped, barreled frames off of GB. Between tennexplorer and I, we had enough parts to rebuilt both. Both got sold over the years.

About 4 years ago, I found a 3" M65 for $475. It is now my wife's gun. :)

I like the Model 13 a lot, it just isn't ideal for IWB carry in warm weather. I'd really prefer a 3" Model 65.

As it is, for everyday use and carry, I prefer my 3" Model 686+, 2 1/2" Model 66, or 2 3/4" Speed Six.

I have one (13-2, 4"). Good shooter. Not too pretty, but a solid service revolver. I like fixed sight service guns.

I have a 13-2 4'' also, but in nickle.Love these and they are great at the range.

Plenty of love here. What's not to love about a well holstered FBI model with Secret Service grips? The 65 hides the patina. The 13 hints at the stories. :)

What can you say,but beautiful?

Lots of "lust" here for the 3 inch 13......... the 4" not so much!!!!

I think at 4" most would opt for the sexier ........ 19 or 586.

There were a lot more 3" 65s built than the 13...... stainless was the name of the duty gun game in the 70s and 80s.
