Where's the Love for the Model 13?

I have several of them. Sharing some love for one of my favorite "slightly modified" 3" .357s...

I've posted this Model 13 before. This was my last issued revolver prior to my agency's switch to bottom feeders.

I was issued a Model 66-1, 2.5 inch, a Model 66-2, 4 inch and the model 13. The Model 13 was, by far, my favorite issued revolver. We ordered them with the round butt target (banana) grips and they were extremely comfortable. We also had S&W roll mark our agency seal on the side plate.

I'm a bit of a pragmatist, so I would prefer the lower maintenance 3" 65, but the 3" 13 is still a cool gun to have, if for no other reason than it was the issued gun for the FBI for several years. That's pretty much the only reason I'd want one. However, I'm even more interested in the FBI's 2.5" Model 10.

Agree totally! X100

So I'm watching Silence of the Lambs last night and the FBI is all geared up with their Model 13s and it got me wondering why no one here talks much those beautiful little 357s.

I go on Gunbroker and only see two available. Are they really that rare? And if they're K frame 357s what makes them any different from the Model 19s?

There's a lot of love here for the 13/65 and they're often discussed, especially the desirable 3" model.

Several years ago (before prices got crazy) I was lucky enough to find and buy two 3-inch Model 13's, just a few months apart. Both came with the standard roundbutt magna stocks and both are in +95% condition.

I kept the magna stocks but replaced them with Ahrends which I like the look and feel of. The top one in the pic below is a 13-3 and the bottom one is a 13-4. I keep one in the safe and the other does duty as a bedside gun....I switch them up ever so often. :)

13's in high condition don't show up for sale very often. Many were duty guns that saw a lot of use. I posted pics of mine some time ago. As I have said many times, I love fixed sight magnums. I'll post new pics of my newly obtained M-60 soon in another thread.

Not any more; Smith has the 2.75-inch barreled Model
66 with full length ejector rod and front lockup within
the yoke area. Of course, one might not like the newer
types of Smiths.

I'd be inclined to buy one of the new model K-frame 357's with a 2 3/4 inch barrel if it came with a fixed rear sight. Currently, they are only adjustable sight 19/66 versions and I prefer a fixed sight on a carry/defensive handgun.

Something I think Smith easily could do without
any great amount of retooling.

This is my favorite M13 I've ever seen... A blued round butt with Banana's...
