My next rifle purchase will be a .17HMR caliber. I've narrowed my choices so far to a CZ 455 American or Savage 93. Are there others I should consider from you rimfirers out there?

I'm a fan of the CZ 452/453, just because. My favorite 17 HMR is a full stock 452, so you're spot on with the new 455's.

I would'nt trade or sell my CZ for nothing.
I put a Leupold 3x9 on top and it is a tack driver.
Can't say about the Savage rifles as i have'nt shot
them but with the accu-trigger i'll bet they are good
as well.

I'll vote savage. I love mine. Accu trigger is slick. The CZ are awful nice too tho.

I bought my son a M93 Savage. It's a laser shooter. As suggested the CZ and Rugers are also fine guns.

I have a CZ 455 American with the extra barrel in .22 LR. Never have used the .22 and, with a 3x9 Leupold, have shot many a prairie dog past 200 yds. Wonderful rifle! My son, on the other hand, has a Savage. He likes the trigger better than the CZ and has shot many a prairie dog past 200 yds. Wonderful rifle too! I prefer the more classic style of the CZ, but I think you would be fine with either. Just buy what you like best!

I have both -
The Savage 93R17-BV (17HMR) and the CZ452 Varmint in .17HMR.
Bought the Savage first. It took a while to figure out that it liked the 20gn bullets more than the 17gn pills. I also didn't care for the Accutrigger as the glocklike springy thing was unnatural to me and it wouldn't let me set it light enuf without cutting the trigger spring. I replaced the Accutrigger with a Rifle Basix trigger, set it at 10 oz., and am happy with that.
The Savage turned into a project gun until I got it the way I liked it. When I was finished it was so popular with friends & family that I went out & bought the CZ. The CZ had a bit of trigger creep but that worked out after some use. It was pretty much good to go out of the box.
Both rifles are incredibly accurate - the fit & finish on the CZ is far superior to the Savage. The Savage is now the "loaner".
I'd go with the CZ by a long shot.

I`ve had a Savage 93 for several years now. Have shot lots of critters. Accurate, and the accu-trigger is great. The plastic stock-not so great. I put a aftermarket comb on it, and a few lead bullets in the stock to give it some balance. It finally cracked (will admit that rifle is in the garage on the 4 wheeler in all seasons).
I replaced the stock with a Boyd`s laminated-which is the same one Savage puts on theirs`-which is what I would recommend you get.
Or, you can`t go wrong with a CZ either.
Make sure you try Hornady V Max ammo too!

I've handled and shot the savage many times, definitely a great rifle. I agree with the man that says it's difficult to find a rifle that doesn't shoot the 17hmr well.
