Which 3rd gen 45

Been carrying my 908S for the past couple years as a wintertime carry. I've decided to switch to 45 acp for winter. What is the equivalent to my beloved 908S in 45?

IMHO the 457s would be the equivalent in 45acp to the 908s.

The 457 would be the equivalent of the 908. It's a compact 45ACP with a seven round magazine. Manual of arms is identical to the 908.

If you've been carrying and like you're 908s for a while I agree that a 457 would be a great choice. Since you have a 908s of course you'd have to get a 457s.

I agree that a 4516 is a choice, but I replaced mine for carry a very long time ago with a 4513. Some don't like them cause you loose a round but it feels like you also lose a pound.

I only have a 908 but you can see the size difference of the two mentioned .45's.

Hopefully you have "a bit" extra cause all these pistols are kinda hard to track down and seem to command high prices now.

The other compact .45 is the CS 45. A little smaller than the 457. The 457 and CS 45 are both value series guns just like the 908. The 4513TSW is more refined and will cost more even as a used gun. They are fine pistols though. The 4513TSW has a rail on it unless you can find an early production gun w/o the rail. The pre rail guns also lose 1 round from 7 to 6.

4516 all steel. Great little .45 but very heavy for its size.

And the 4513TSW.. I don't have them all together but the 4513TSW and CS45 are pretty close to same size. The 4516 and 457 are the same size and a bit larger than the 2 just mentioned.

The CS45 is my pick. Sturdy, holds enough rounds and accurate for its size.

I agree with those who suggest the 457 as being "closest", or most similar of the 45 caliber models, to your 908.

The other models suggested, the 4513TSW and CS45 are also similar and excellent choices as well.

Owning and carrying all three models I would suggest the 457, for daily 45 carry. It is the largest of the three models (provided we are talking about the early 6-round mag 4513TSW) and carries one extra round over the other two. If that is something that matters to you.

The reason I would vote for it is that it is easily replaced for not too much money - unlike the others - is accurate enough for government work - I find both the CS45 and 4513TSW to be more accurate than the 457 - and the 457 is as reliable as all the other 3rd gen 45s.

In other words, it is a cheap, easily replaced, reliable work horse of a 45. Do basic upkeep on it (keep the rails greased and change the recoil springs every 3K rounds) and you will get a long service life out of the 457. How long? Your guess is as good as mine. I have had my current 457 for around 8 years. I have between 9K and 10K rounds through it. I have worn out a mag catch and broken a sideplate. Both parts easily found and replaced. Gun runs like a top. In fact, I think enough of it to have put night sights on it. Great pistol.

Personally, the early 4513TSW is my favorite carry 45......well....my very favorite gun, period. Mine are extremely accurate. And the early 4513TSW carries and conceals easily.

And the CS45 is no slouch either. Although if my CS45 didn't have TercGen grips installed, I probably would not still own it. The OEM grips didn't work, for me. The excellent TercGen grips made it a keeper. Good luck with your decision! Regards 18DAI

Somewhat off subject but I've always really liked the dust cover shape on the "Value Line" offerings, so that's another selling, (buying,) point for me.

Since I don't have a LS or NLS 3913/14 my "Value Line's" will just have to do.
