Got a local shop that has few 41. Old and new. A pristine bullbarrel 1982. A good shape 71 long barrel with muzle brake and 1 more model with field barrel. All between 800-900$ I am leaning towards 82. But field barrels is rare and worth more? What do you guys think?

I am looking to buy a mod 41 also. What years should I look for? I want a long barrel with a brake.

If you really have to have the brake on it then it will be a older model gun for sure. Personally I removed mine and use the false nose on it. It shoots much better this way as the brake caused it to shoot high and to the left somewhat. A buildup of debris in the brake is what caused it to do this. They can be slightly difficult to clean out.

Ok, if the brake option is removed , what would be best? early model, mid, or late/ new production.

If by feild bbl, you mean 5"... then that would be the one to get, they are few & far between.

I've got a 7.5" from '76 & a 5.5" from '82. I shoot the 5.5" better. Conventional wisdom says a longer sight radius would make the 7.5" gun easier to shoot- but not for me (with these 2 guns anyway).

The grip of the 41 duplicates the angle of the 1911, making it a great understudy. I prefer the 5.5 inch barrel for that reason.

Went today and put a deposit on it. Got 5.5 inch 1981-1982 s&w model 41. No cocking indicator. In great condition

Mines a 1958 with the longer barrel but we all know you will enjoy any barrel you get with this gun period.
