which 629 model is best?

Monday-Wednesday, the -4 is the "best."

Thursday- Sunday, the -5 is the "best."

:D

I can say that my 6" -5, full lug is one of the most accurate handguns I have ever shot. Locks up in such a way to make a Colt blush and has a great trigger. It is MIM, but that's given me zero problems so far. It's also pre-lock.

They're all great but they've gotta be P&R to really get my attention. They all have their features but there is nothing like an older S&W......

Beautiful guns Terry, the No Dash is my personal choice.
Aside from the 29, of course

I also like the 4" no dash but my second favorite is the 629 - 2 Mountain revolver.
Love that tapered barrel.

IF you intend to carry one a lot, I would go with a 629 Mountain Gun. If you want to shoot a lot, go with a regular 629 4". My MG is a 629-6 and it is one of the best, if not the best revolver I have owned. There is only a couple of ounces difference in weight, but if you are hiking they do add up.

I agree. When in the field I carry my 44 Mag in a cross draw holster.

I can tell the difference between a regular 44 Mag and the Mountain Gun.

I bought a Mountain gun for my wife... I liked it so much, I had to get one for me.

TDC & Fyimo are posting in a 629 thread and I'm late to the party....

The answer is,

A 629-4

Because I don't HAVE a P&R one like you guys do, damnit.

I being new to the caliber love my -5.

It is my first 44 mag, beautiful to look at and feels great in the hand. I couldn't be happier with my choice of 44.

I cannot wait to get some new grips on it.

I like 629's too

I once had an 8 3/8" model 29 but didn't enjoy emptying it because the spent cases stuck in cylinder after they were shot. My left thumb & right palm would get sore and cut up after emptying the spent cases. (I shot it a lot) Then I got a 629-3. The empties seem to slide out of it after popping open the cylinder. If you actually shoot, I think newer ones are nicer to shoot.

Yep..... We were missin' ya, GF...:)

You can be excused for the moment for not having a no dash, but that dash 4 is mighty pretty!!! Seeing all these beautiful examples makes me want to own them all!!:D

When looking at smith revolvers look for one with a hammer mounted firing pin and the rest will take care of itself.
