I know someone must know the answer and has probably already posted, but 30 minutes of doing searches, and I still can't find the answer.

What is the number / nomenclature for the alloy used on Smith 3rd Gen alloy frames? Example: 6906, 6904, 5904, 5903

I have refinished a couple with Duracoat and one with a Ceramic Engine Header paint, but now I have the chance to get a commercial metal plating shop to do some "courtesy" plating/anodizing for me. My friend has asked about the specific alloy designation.

If I remember correctly,it is something like 4130 or 6190 or something similar. Can anyone help me.

Interesting question. To my recollection, I've only seen it referenced as an aluminum alloy; nothing more detailed than that. You could ask S&W??

Well, you can rule out 4130, as SAE 4130 is Chrome Moly steel, an alloy used for its "toughness". Favorite Aluminum alloys for high strength forgings tend to be 7075 and 6061. Given the age range of these fine pistols, I wouldn't be surprised if were a 7000 alloy group.
