I have a very nice Model 43 no-dash which I purchased from another forum member. According to Mr. Jinks, it was shipped in 1963. It was designed to shoot the 22 Long Rifle cartridge. Almost all of the ammo that I now have is marked as 'High Velocity'. Since this is an older gun with an alloy cylinder, I am wondering if it is OK to use this newer ammo.

Nice gun!

No experience with the Model 43, but I’ve got two 317’s which have 8 shot aluminum cylinders. I’ve put thousands of rounds of high speed .22’s through them with any problems. Your cylinder is a lot heavier than mine.

My favorite plinking ammo is Blazer and Federal Champion because of the price, but CCI standard velocity is great stuff and hard to beat.

I happen to like Blazer for mine, but I doubt that it is the very best. OTOH, with .22LR, who knows? My 43 is less picky with ammo than my pre-34 and a long-gone 2" 34 and my 1958 pre-17. As far as HV ammo goes, that is a somewhat older concern, mostly with the earliest Colt autoloaders, and with revolvers whose chambers are not recessed.

I have no hesitation in shooting HV .22LR in any firearm I own, including my Model 43.
