This is most likely a dumb question but can I shoot 44 special in My Smith and Wesson Model 29-3 and if so can I just load the Magnum shells to the 44 special powder charge without problems?
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question.

Not a dumb question!

I have done that for years. Being lazy by nature and having a large amount of 44 mag brass it keeps me from adjusting the dies between Mag and special.

A very good question.

I always load .44 Magnum practice loads (.44 Special) with .44 magnum brass.

I do not want to have a build-up of powder and lead residue in the chambers that precludes inserting a .44 magnum case.

NYlakesider said it all.
I load everything from Cowboy to hunting loads, all in magnum shells, lead or jacketed, heavy to light bullets.
Saves having to reset the press.

The larger load space in the .44 Magnum case will give lower pressures that may be below the minimum and cause problems. You should check the load data for the powder and bullet you plan to use.

This is good advice.

Just double check to make sure.

Only thing to remember if you shoot 44 Specials in the Mag. is to be sure to clean the chambers so a carbon ring will not build up and hinder magnum loads from going all the way in.

If you are going to .44 Spl velocity loads, use hard cast lead bullets. They are cheaper and tend to be more accurate. The old Elmer Keith style 240-250 gr SWC and if you can find them 200+ grain wadcutters are the most accurate.

.44 Spl loads shot in a .44 Mag. provides the most Farfignuegen shooting you will ever experience!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies They are most helpful in relieving My apprehension.
