Which Colt?

3-5-7, it's like a Python, only prettier!

I VOTE FOR THE 3-5-7 BASED ON SCARCITY----BUT NOTHING, LET ME SAY IT AGAIN---NOTHING--IS PRETTIER THAN A PYTHON ! ! ! JMHO, OF COURSE……..

My opinion is the 357 is the best of the two by far. While the MK V is fairly rare, the 357 is the better of the two by far. The 357 is made from forgings and handwork as it was done for so many years. This handwork resulted in fine, fine actions and overall pleasing results. Accuracy will be top and it will be a fabulous looking and working revolver.
The MK V is made in the newer method of castings and "sintering" metals. While these can be very functional guns, they lack the "soul" of the earlier guns and will never, ever be as well done as the originals. In my opinion, the MK III, IV and V Colts were just soulless and very poor renditions of the original Colt guns, with emphasis on the revolver.
Its your money, and you asked for opinions. As evidenced by the over-whelming response for the 357, you will have to decide what is you are really wanting. As noted, many of us would have taken the 357 immediamento! Good luck. But.... BUY the 357!

I just cut a deal with the seller for the 357 and a S&W 1917.45acp he also had as a package deal. I paid $1075 shipped (Canadian) for the pair....that's about $875-900 US at today's exchange rate. These guns are so rare up here that it's hard to know for sure but i think that was a fair price. It's done now and I'm happy so I guess that's the main thing.

As always....thanks for the help and advice.

Purely a personal viewpoint, but I wouldn't even bother researching or attempting to predict future values of the two revolvers. Money isn't everything. I don't know which way the "value" dictates, because I don't care.

Three five seven, for sure. That's a classic. That new thing is, in my mind, hardly a real Colt.

Others are certainly entitled to disagree, but that's the way I see it.

BTW, I recommend reading Aircrewman's post.

P.S. Yes, it's called "piling on." Folks do it because they strongly agree.

Just to update. I was looking a couple of days ago and that Trooper MK V was still available. I made an offer and I got it. I guess I didn't have to choose between the two after all! :)

You made the right choice in taking the 357 first and then coming back for the Trooper........see you knew you needed to get them both:D

3 5 7

As a lover of the OfficerModelMatch, my choice would absolutely be for the 357. This gun is nearly an OMM with a longer cylinder. The OMM in 22 mag IS my next purchase. This spring I watched a boxed Colt 3 5 7 go at auction for $2200.00.

One thing that's great about that 3-5-7 is it's obvious wear.

Because of that, there is absolutely NO reason for it to be a safe queen.
Take it out and shoot the bejeebers out of it.
If all you do is keep it clean and rust free, no additional shooting you might do with it will take away any of it's value.

You're probably lucky it wasn't a 95% gun because it would probably disappear into your dark safe and never be seen again until your kids and/or grandkids fight over it the day after your funeral. :)

This way, you can actually shoot it and have some real Colt fun with it.
