My local gun shop has a bunch of sweet guns that just came in from an estate right as I get my tax money

A 4" nickel M19-4 and a 4"1774 Colt Python. Both are in 95% - 98%. There is an obvious price discrepancy but I want both but have to chose one?

Get the python. I just know you must have some smiths anyway! I have several pythons and treasure them. (got a load of smiths too.)

I agree with feralmerril. I have a 19 and a Python, like 'em both-just a question of value & scarcity. You can always sell the Python later and buy two model 19s.

I agree, if the timing is good get the Python.

I agree with buying the Python. Then let me know where the Md 19 is so I can buy it.

Sir Please buy the Colt.... i have a royal Blue eight inch Phython tha will bring tears to yourEyes!!!! its a once in a life time deal buy it cry like baby

(PYTHON)>
As much as I love my S&W's, those Python's just keep going up in price, especially the shorter barrel one's like S&W's have been.
Post some pic's when you buy either one, good luck chosing.

I would get the 19...but then again I can't afford a python....I guess if the sizable discrepancy in $$$ doesn't matter you'd be better off with the colt....or you could channel than $$$ into a Smith of equal value...just a thought.

Seems to be a pattern developing here.

I agree, get the Python while you can.

I have to be the contrarian (along with spearcrow

) and say get the model 19.

I won't even touch a "C-word" revolver.

If you are buying it for an investment, BBQing, collecting etc, go for the Python. If you are going to shoot it or defend your life with it, get the 19. I always wanted a Python, until I shot one.

I would go with the Python. I have 2 already. A 6" bought new and a 4" bought used 28 years later, both were made in 1978. Remember a Python's trigger is different than a S&W. The Python trigger is stagey. It stacks up toward the end (it gets heavier as it is pulled). It will get very heavy just before it lets go. A S&W trigger is the same all the way through. The Python trigger was designed for target competition, pull it to the stack point adjust your final sight picture then trip the trigger. Many don't like the Python because of this. Personally I love both triggers and can use each effectively, it just takes some understanding of the Colt trigger.
