.40 in the winter, 9mm in the summer, .380 in the sunday-go-to-meetin' pants.

The elusive 9mm for me -
Beretta Mini Cougar DAO on-duty
Kahr CW9 off duty
S&W 360 (converted to 9mm) BUG and off duty

Model 49 nearly every day with a KelTec P32 as a secondary most days. With winter here it's more often a G29 or G26 in place of the Bodyguard.

I carry the .40S&W because it fits both of the G-27s that I carry and the Glock is as close to a Double Action Revolver that I have ever run into.

I would also agree that the 9MM should have been included because there are still many ignorant folks out there carrying them just because the ammo is cheap and available and since the Military carries this round then it "MUST" be good!!! The usual excuses for carrying a less than perfect cartridge. I didn't begin carrying a Glock until they came out with one in a perfect or very close damn close to one - the .40 S&W!!! Go figure!

I've heard similar statements made about anyone that carries anything less than a 45 ACP. Either everyones "ignorant" or nobody is.

Arrogant and ignorant all at the same time there is no magic in effectiveness. Given a suitable threshold of velocity, penetration/expansion, and placement various conclusions may be noted by advocates of a differing position. I’m not going to say that the 40S&W is the end all to end all and be dismissive of the 9mm Luger. I haven’t seen a crying need to buy a handgun in 40S&W and dispose of my handguns in 9mm Luger or 45ACP. In the end we’re entitled to our view points be they right, wrong or otherwise.

I carry 9x19mm, .38Special and .45acp interchangeably. I've carried my Norinco M1911 for the last three weeks. I switched to my Glock 19 this morning because I felt like it.

I didn't realize that a "perfect" cartridge had been developed in the .40S&W. Apparently police and military forces around the world haven't received that memo yet either otherwise they would most certainly be dumping they're old, proven guns and ammunition in favor of this miracle of modern weaponry that has made everything else obsolete, even if nobody knows it yet.
Thank you KKG, for pointing out my ignorance, I just hope I'm professional enough to handle a the perfect Glock .40 that I'm going to trade all of my 9mm's in on. I feel safer and better equipped already. And a lot less ignorant, too!!!

Thought for today- Spend more time learning to shoot what you carry and less time talking about it.

As I get older I recognize the wisdom of the "old farts" I used to laugh at. The J frame on your body beats the 1911 you left in your car of home. Practical/realistic carry versus shoulder holsters, SOB, etc. My EDCs consist of a 432 (32 H&R Magnum) and a Seecamp .32ACP. One in each front pants pocket every day and every time I can legally carry. If possible, I carry 2 speed loaders for the 432, but rely on the Seecamp for a New York reload or access by my weak hand. When traveling long distances by car, I upgrade by adding either a 9mm H&K PSP, Model 66 (.357 Magnum) or Sigma in .40S&W.

Dave

I carry OWB @ 4:00, IWB @ 4:00, and in a shoulder holster... with a 4" N frame and a full sized 1911.
I find it very practical and realistic.
You make concessions to the fact that you are carrying, and you can carry almost anything.
For me a small pistol like a J frame doesnt fit my hand well and I find it more difficult to hit with it. I also find presentation slower out of my pocket than from a 4:00 draw.

Your mileage may vary.

Jim,

I beg your pardon - I wrote in haste and meant no disrespect. Different holsters and carry modes fit different people and situations. I have found through daily carry that pocket carry works best for me most of the time. For larger sized, and/or larger caliber weapons, I resort to OWB strong side, or shoulder holster carry.

Dave

Dave, no harm no foul.
I just wonder about all the people I see on many different forums constantly being advised to carry J frames, taurus 85s, tomcats, etc.
It would seem that for many pocket carry is the only option they see or will advise.
I understand and will mention pocket carry as a 100% viable option, but I never look at it as a first choice.
Many people who are fairly new to handguns buy ultra compact pistols because they are smaller and less intimidating, without realizing how much more difficult it is to perform well with them.
With that mindset I tend to advise larger, easier to perform with pistols that tend to need a little more consideration to carry.
Its a different strokes for different folks deal.
