It's not just a statistical comparison. It's also a comparison of unsubstantiated theories and fairy tales. But even if it were a legitimate comparison of terminal effects of various cartridges, it would also fail to take into account another VERY important factor for most of us, which is whether a gun for the cartridge selected is actually going to be in physical possession when needed.

good point model520fan, One of the current gun rags out has an article on ccw and the top 10 rules. The first rule listed was "if you are going to carry, carry all the time".

I didn't see it listed, but I carry a 9mm (Glock 19) most often by small margin. I also carry a .45 (1911) pretty often. I make the choice based on what I'm wearing.

I carry a.40 for two reasons, it works the same way as my duty gun, and shoots the same ammo. And I get that ammo for free. John

I'm really surprised at how the .38 is doing in this poll. Is it because most carry the small j frames?

It is for me. I summer carry a 642. In Texas, summer is most of the time, so I voted .38 special. The rest of the time it's an SP101 in .357 magnum.

357 Sig P239
Simply because, it shoots right where I point it at 25yds, and is easy to carry.
My other carry gun is my 1076 S&W, a little heavier, but I really shoot it well. I carry it when I am having to be in the hood or downtown KC. I carry extra mags too. It aint heavy, it's my brother. It is a very serious combat handgun. Letting loose double taps with 165gr 10mm is quite impressive, it sounds really powerful.

S&W M 21 .44 special.
Its larger than most people would choose, but I am large enough to conceal it fairly well.
It is a round I have high confidence in, the pistol fits my hand well, and it hits exactly where I aim.

45 ACP sheep here. 9 rounds of Gold dot joy ride in my full size SW1911. It's not so much that I'm a believer in the whole 'man stopper' argument, it's just that I shoot the 1911 platform better than anything else and the thing is just so slim, it disappears pretty easily.

At some point I'd like to pick up a small frame 357 to experiment with, but the slabsides will probably be my primary for a long time.

.380 most of the time, but 9mm is a close second which I don't see. Any reason for that?

I rely on an Ed Brown Kobra Carry; think 1911 Commander size with bob-tail. It is quite conceable, accurate, has good sights and a great trigger. I highly recommend this pistol. Others are S&W 638-2, Glock 26 & Sig 239 in 9mm, or Sig 230 in .380. Depends upon where I am going, and to a lesser degree, what I am wearing. I shoot the Brown the best, but am competent with each of the others. Confidence in the weapon is key to me, and all of these meet the test.

I carry year round 2 guns. A Ruger SP101 or my parkerized S&W M10 2 or 4 inch barrel. Sp101 in 2.25 in. barrel rz625-8
