17-2, left. 17-4, right.
SCSW is somewhat unclear.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but I'll give the help I can.

The Magna stocks on the left with the diamond at the screw location would be correct for a Model 17-2.

The Target stocks on the right could be correct for a Model 17-4, but only for an early dash 4. They correctly lack the diamond. But, in 1978, S&W began using the full speedloader cut on the left panel for the K frame Target stocks. By about 1980, you no longer see the "football" extractor relief on the K frames. So, those stocks, if they came on a Model 17-4, would be correct only for the first couple years of the -4.

Another thing to note is that the pair you show are made of Goncalo Alves. That would be rather unusual for a Model 17, which usually shipped with walnut Target stocks. That pair may have originally been on a Model 19.

Here is a photo of a Model 14-4 wearing its factory original walnut Targets, including the speedloader cut. This revolver shipped on July 21, 1980.
