Which grips on your N frame?

I have medium sized hands (size 10 glove). Fingers are average, almost skinny.

The stock grips on my 625 JM haven't won me over. Yet. I have some Hogue rubber square butt grips coming in but who knows if I'll like them for uspsa.

What grips are on your N frame, what size are your hands and is the N frame a range or daily carry or game gun or something else.

On my shooter 629 8 3/8 bbl, I use pac rubber, the most ugly grips ever made. The gun shoots groups @ 100 yds that rivials alot of rifles

My N frames are all shooters and they wear hogue grippers. They are range guns as I don't carry or hunt. I just love to reload and shoot. I have small hands and all my heavy hitters wear hogues. N frames are my favorites. I don't have L frames anymore. I don't really like j frames but I have two . I like k frames for plinking with 38s.

My two oldest N-frames (1914 & 1921) have service stocks and grip adapters, while I put Magnas and a grip adapter on one from 1938. I have 4 made in the 1950s and three of them have Magnas and grip adapters while one has relieved diamond targets. Two round butts have factory finger groove combats. Got two from the 1980s, one with trimmed down targets (coke profile) and the other with Hogue mono-grips. Wow, that took a fair amount of thinking and typing. Sure hope it is of interest to you. (LOL)

You may want to consider buying S&W 500 grips for your N frame. They cover the whole grip and absorb more recoil than the original factory grips provided for an N frame..... The frame fit is identical for me.. Something for everyone with a round butt N frame to consider...

I too have small, skinny hands (size 7 ring) . . . yet have always shot my N frames very well in double action competitions.

For the gun games, I've always used Hogue "rubbers" on my N, L and K frames. They afford a perfect grip . . . don't allow the gun to torque out of that perfect grip, while never causing any discomfort either.

On my deer hunting Model 29 .44 Magnum, I use Hogue "Camolamo" wood grips in the same style configuration as the rubbers. Zero discomfort while firing hot 300 gr. ammo. The Hogue design uses thin width at the top of the grip's "horns," and thus doesn't pound the inner first bone of the thumb when using the proper high grip. They are wonderful!

Still, for double action gun games, I switch to Hogue rubbers on all my S&W revolvers, including ones in .45ACP. You will surely like them a lot too, I suspect.

Hand size, differences in perception, and personal preferences are so varied - that's why there are so many choices out there in this land of plenty.

I have average sized hands and unless I'm shooting the stoutest loads that torque the gun in my hand, the old style 'target' grips with the checkering and medallions have always suited me just fine. Lot's of folks like they way the look by not how they feel under recoil or sit in their hand. They always felt about right, to me.

Most of my N frames wear smooth 'Presentation' S&W grips in the safe, and when they step out to the range they either dress in the aforementioned targets or a set of Hogue mono-grips.

I know though it feels funny to me, a lot of guys with average to small hands like a 'service' type grip (magna grips) with an adapter like Tyler T.

While I don't have Bill Jordan size hands, my hands are a bit on the large size. I have found several sets of grips that follow the Skeeter Skelton styling and they work for me on square butt N Frames. On my N frames that have round butts, I use a wood grip by Hogue that are round butt grips (not the round to square conversion) without finger grooves. I can't do finger grooves and they just don't fall where my fingers want to be. Hope that helps. Sorry I don't have photos that I can post. JWK

I have small hands and every one of my N-frames wears a Hogue wood grip. On the rounds butts I don't use conversion grips, I've found that the round butt grips point perfectly where the conversion grips tend to point high for me. If I grip the gun, pick up a point on the wall with the gun pointed at the ground, close my eyes and raise the gun to a shooting position, open my eyes, with the round butts the sights will be perfectly aligned, the square butts or conversion grips will be pointing a little high. Felt recoil does seem to be a little higher with the round butts though. I use them for competition, carry and shooting. I used to hunt with them but I don't seem to have much time to hunt these days. In competition I like the wood because if I don't get my grip quite right after a reload the first shot settles the gun into my hand.

My N frames wear Ahrends round butts. I do not have long fingers and I need the backstrap exposed on the N frames. I also feel more comfort with round butt grips over square. For me the rounds point better and recoil feels better. On my L frames I can use grips that cover the backstrap and still have it comfortable. In fact L frames with covered backstrap feels like N frame with backstrap exposed. I prefer it that way. I have a friend with long fingers and he prefers the larger grips that cover the backstrap on his N frames. He can palm a basketball and I cannot. His fingers can poke me in the eye from across the room. One size does not fill all with revolver grips. I have a handful of J, L and N frame grips laying around that I will never use. I should post them for sale sometime on this forum and me some grips that fit.

at this point the range is the only place for my n frames. the target stocks feel best for me. they distribute the felt recoil well. one day when I own land and need a woods carry gun I will use either a magna with grip adaptor or something similar so that I can get a tighter feel for the gun. but at the range, or sitting in a stand, or whatever, I really prefer the targets.

My Model 28-2, 4-inch came with factory stocks. I removed them, tossed them in the safe, and replaced them with Hogue Monogrips. I have several roundbutt K-frames and like several types of grips on them, but that M28 with the Hogues works great for me!

I really like the Ahrend's round butts, without the finger grooves. I have them on any of the N frames I regularly carry. Here's what they look like on my 625 MG. I wear large size gloves.

I use large sized gloves and I used to use the Pachmayer Compacs on both my round-butt N-frames (a 3" and a 1 7/8" barrel). Now I use Hogue wood on the three inch and a Hogue K/L-frame Bantam in rubber for the small one.
The Pachmayer and Hogue were both comfortable for extended shooting sessions.
I went with the Hogues because the Bantams were more compact and I wanted the same type of "feel" for both guns. They both point extremely well in my hands
If you get a chance you really need to see if you can check out other but similar sized N-frames to really see what fits/feels good to you.

Sir, FWIW, I wear a medium glove and prefer magnas on N-frames, particularly for double-action shooting. My one remaining N-frame (a .45 Colt) is mainly a range/woods gun.

I really like the combat grips either sq or rd butt. I would put them on everything if I could afford it.
