I have been a reloader for many years.
I have cast bullets for .30 cal, .357/.38 cal, and two .45 calibers.
This past weekend I attended, and found some .38 wadcutters
at a gun show in Dayton OH.
They have two lube grooves, but are only lubed in one.
Should the lubed groove be the top one, or the bottom one?
I use 3 grains of Bullseye, so there is not a tremendous amount of speed in the load.
Thanks

I cast, for my own use, the H&G #251 dbl ended wadcutter. I lube only one groove. I use whichever groove is convenient for however my sizer/luber is set at the time. It really makes little difference which groove is lubed. Too much lube and it DOES effect accuracy (I have tested this with a Ransom Rest with a number of fine .38 Special revolvers as well as the 52 Smith Auto).

E.H. Harrison ran a considerable number of tests when he developed the NRA 50/50 Alox/Beeswax lube and came to these conclusions). My small efforts mirrored his conclusions.

I load my cast wadcutters with the sprue end as the base of the bullet. I have no idea if that matters or not but since all my other cast bullet molds are such that the sprue is cut off the base, I assumed the wadcutter was, too.
