I'm looking to add one last revolver to the "collection." I'll probably be selling an HK 2000sk 9mm and hope to get at least $700.

So what gun to buy?

I have a .357 66-2; a shooter-grade 38/44; a Model 15-3; a Victory; Model 10, a 29-2 that my son has for his walks in the Pacific Northwest woods, and 642. (Plus a Colt 1917 and a couple of .38 S&WnotSpecials.)

I don't want a straight collector's piece, I really like to shoot what I own and don't need something that belongs in a display case.

It won't be a carry gun just something somewhat iconic and good to shoot.

Suggestions, and it doesn't necessarily have to be S&W or a revolver...but a Smith wheel gun is my first choice?

A .22 would round out your collection, though I have to admit I have no familiarity with .22s.

Maybe something in .45ACP? A 625 maybe? Don't know what the prices are on these, though.

I can't remember...do you have a 1911? You could buy an inexpensive 1911 and still have money left over for ammo and accessories.

I agree with much of the pack here, a revolver in 22LR can be loads of fun and very economical to shoot on top of that

Model 17 or 18 for a K-frame and the Model 63 for a smaller J-frame revolver

K-22 or 17.
28-2.
34 or 63 4".
625 (though tough to find for $700).

I too tend to collect a lot of .38s as they're far less expensive than the magnums and honestly just as fun to shoot, if not more so.

Out of the above I'd focus on a pinned barrel 17, probably a 1970s gun if $700 really is your budget.

There is always the K-22 MRF model 48-4.

If you can get the .22 long rifle cylinder with it you can shoot both .22 mags and .22 long rifle.

Or if you want something different Check out the Rock Island Armory M1911-A1 XT22.tk4.jpg

You have a lot of great selections to look up

With the list of what you own, a glaring omission is a K-22 Masterpiece. $700 gets you pretty close or in on a nice 17, maybe a 17-3 which are plentiful.
Exactly. The OP lacks and needs a .22 in his collection. :) Many good choices, but it might take a little shopping to stay within budget and still snag a nice vintage one. I might try to grab a Model 18-3, but any vintage K-22 in good shape would suffice. Another interesting option would be a stainless vintage Model 63 kit gun. I wouldn't do a current Model 617, but that's just me. ;)

Before I would offer a suggestion, I would ask what kind of shooting are you interested in?

Initially, I would suggest a Thompson Center Contender (or it's current offering). That way, when you get the urge for a different cartridge, you just swap out the barrel!

Next, I would suggest a K38/Model 14. With the money you save, I'd suggest not an additional gun, but a mold, a sizer, an inexpensive toaster oven, and powder coating so you can make your own bullets and keep on shooting!

If a .22 doesn't appeal to you, you might think about a shooter grade S&W Model 17 to match your Colt Model 17. Interesting pair using the same .45 ACP with the same 3 cartridge style clips. You should be able to get a shooter S&W Model 17, maybe in the Brazilian mode for about $700 if you look hard. Fun to shoot a pair of 100 year old revolvers. I have a pair like that.

Decisions Decisions

From the looks of things, I think you need a Quality S&W 22lr
Revolver! I suggest the S&W Model 617 22lr 4"Bbl.

If you don't want to spend a lot, something to totally plink with,
and something different, maybe the $200 New Ruger Wrangler
Single Action 22lr?

S&W 617s forever! 4" and 6"Bbl.
