I'd like to get a Model 10 with the 4" tapered barrel.

Later dash numbers probably have better steels, just so long as I stay away from those two-piece barrels that I dislike on K-frames.

It looks like the -11 is the final tapered barrel version in normal production. I'm ok with MIM parts.

The -9 went to the floating firing pin, I'm ok with that also.

The -7 is probably ok too.

Sure, any Model 10 is good. Some are probably better than others.
Suggestions?

I have several modern stainless but when it comes to blue and walnut I like to see the pin looking back at me. Totally aesthetic, I know they all are fine, as Gearhead says the steel may even be better on the new ones.

10-5 or 10-7 with the barrel pin. The older M&Ps with the rounded
front sight are well made and neat looking but the ramped and
serrated sight on the later guns are sooo much easier to see. I like
the 4" barrel length the best. I seriously doubt the higher dash number
guns have better steels than the 10-5 & -7.

I've got the 10-7. I won't be presumptuous and say it's the best but it's up there.

The best 10 is the one in your hand.

I too am partial to the 10-5 and while I don't have a 5" this 6" is one of my favorites and not one you see very often. Least I don't in my neck of the woods.
