I have not read all these posts but really, with homemade being as simple as it is and knowing exactly what goes into it, I will choose homemade. .

and edited to add... anybody that picked Miracle Whip needs to be evaluated.. that is not mayonnaise.. or even an acceptable sandwich spread...

as a result of this thread, i looked at blue plate mayo.
it says all yolks, so i ordered some. it is every bit as good as hellmans, but more expensive.
i'll stay with hellmans due to price but both are real mayo.
haven't found dukes yet.

That's funny susieqz, because down in south Louisiana Blue Plate is cheaper than Hellmans or the other big name mayo brands.

I prefer Miracle Whip on sandwiches, but my wife rathers Blue Plate and she uses both when making potato salad.

The Texas (and other states also) burger chain Whataburger is now selling mayo through supermarkets. I think that is a relatively new product for them. They have been selling other condiments - mustard, ketchup, salad dressings, etc. - in supermarkets for quite a while. I haven't tried the Whataburger mayo yet, and probably won't. Has anyone?

Whataburger seems to be doing well with their supermarket products. Surprised that McDonalds hasn't tried it.

Yeah, I got some Whataburger mayo a few days ago. I was buying their spicy ketchup, and the store had a coupon for a free mayo with purchase of the ketchup, so why not try it/

It's actually quite good.

When I was a kid we used a lot of "Phillips" products. Mayonnaise, Mustard, but especially pork and beans. I always though and still do they were the best P&B I've ever eaten. I thought Campbell's stunk to high heaven.

When I worked on the farm, was where I learned to like Duke's Mayonnaise. The farmer I worked for, would put it on his string beans (we called them snaps). I'd never heard of anyone doing that, before or since.

Depending of where we were working, we'd either go back to the farmhouse at lunchtime where his mother had fixed a lunch for everyone that would make a table groan, or he'd leave us working, and run up to the nearest country store, and come back with a loaf of white bread, either Esskay ham or bologna fresh sliced off the roll, and a small jar of Dukes Mayo. A big bottle of Pepsi, opened on the truck's gas cap was used to wash it all down.

Those bologna sandwiches were the best. Of course we were working hard and being teenage boys, thought we were about to starve all the time.

Whataburger is a superior burger chain operating in Texas and several other states but they seem to be expanding into marketing other food products at retail rapidly. I think they want to become another H. J. Heinz. It is privately owned (no stock traded) but if they ever decide to have a public stock offering (very unlikely), I'd put every penny I had into buying it without hesitation. One surprising (to me) Whataburger-labeled food item sold in supermarkets is sausage. Too bland for me. They also sell pancake mix which is very good. Their HQ is here in San Antonio and they are buying up lots of local real estate for expansion.

Consider me in the none at all camp

Superior as in sales volume, not taste, as far as I'm concerned.
I've eaten a LOT of Whataburgers and pretty much don't go there anymore. Some locations are better than others, but I have had too many cardboard examples to go back.
Lots of folks here defend them, but most fast food burgers are tasteless lumps, Whataburger included.

Superior taste is a matter of opinion, but I find that the basic Whataburger to be better tasting than basic burgers of all of the other competitor fast food chains. Plus they offer numerous upscale burger (and Chicken sandwich) versions which I usually don't buy as they are more expensive. You just don't see Whataburger stores locally which aren't busy at any time of the day or night which indicates that many consumers consider them superior not only in product quality, but also in cleanliness and service. Which they are.

JFG and Blue Plate are both made by Reiley Foods and are probably the same . The JFG should be a tad less expensive . I get the largest sized Hellmans at Walmart and it is a bit cheaper that way . It is in a bulk food section along with my huge can of peanut butter and a bag of pancake mix that is usually a years supply . If you live up north ( Ohio ) Best Foods mayo is the same as Hellmans .

This is sort of an old story but I will repeat it here.

Back before WWI, Hellman's was a British company which sold mayonnaise and other condiments worldwide. When the RMS Titanic made its maiden voyage in 1912, in its hold were 5000 cases of Hellman's mayonnaise destined for Vera Cruz Mexico, its first shipment there. Vera Cruz was to be the Titanic's next port of call after New York City before it headed back to England. This was expected to be a very important market for Hellman's as it was well known that Mexicans love mayonnaise on most of their foods, and there were thousands of Mexicans waiting for the Titanic to arrive so they could try the great English mayonnaise. When the news about the Titanic hitting an iceberg was announced in Mexico, the country was plunged into great sorrow. So great that the Mexican government declared a day of mourning. And they called it -

SINKO DE MAYO

TEST TEST TEST
i found out walmarts had blue plate, dukes n hellmanns, so i had all 3 delivered.

i tasted them on ritz crackers,
my rating:
hellmanns
dukes
blue plate
but it was very close
i could be happy with any of these.
i gotta redo the test because dukes was really close to home made/
blue plate should have come first since it is the only one claiming all egg yolks

Miracle Whip.:p

Mom has a recipe for chocolate cake that she always made for birthdays. It is called Miracle Whip cake and it uses MW in lieu of oil. Supremely moist and the best chocolate cake I ever had. I use the recipe to make cupcakes every now and then. Goes good with Blue Bell vanilla
