hi guys im new to the forum. im thinking of buying a model 41 . the owner says he bought it in 2002 but doesnt know the dom of the pistol ser no uaz23xx, any ideas of the age? he wants 1200 dollars for pistol with both barrels and 3 mags and box in ex. cond. or a 1973 model in ex cond with box tools and papers for 1000 dollars . which is a better deal? prices might seem high but i live in canada im going to shoot it. would the 73 model be less finicky and have better bluing than the other? thanks for your help

You can find out the date of man on the one gun fairly easily as you have the serial no. PM me and I will tell you where to look. The 1973 is a better buy for what you get with it but still on the slightly high end. The market is different here in Canada as I also bought one this year and am a Canadian member. Glad to have you here with us as well.

I may be wrong, but the model 41 is only still in production because the same guy has been working at Smith since it's introduction and is still building them. Basically that just means that the new one should be just as good as the old one, if not improved any. If you're planning to shoot, I'd jump for the newer one. Older guns are better for collecting for their rarity appeal, though they shoot just fine too!

I will happily stand corrected to any more knowledgeable member though!
