Less expensive 1911's can still be darn nice pistols. I've fired some very nice and a couple VERY expensive 1911's. You quickly reach a point where your $$ are buying "fancy" and an "name", not extra reliability or accuracy. A nice, well fitted 1911 for $1200 can be as reliable and accurate as a $4k one. A good $400 can be every bit as good as one with the "C" name that's 2-2 1/2 times as expensive.

As you mentioned, "can". "Can" is not always; in fact, it's impossible to say how often "can" is. But I think you made your point.
