Which revolver for CCW

I am trying to decide betweenthese 2 revolvers for CCW. I am trying to decide between a 686 or a model 28. Both have a 4 inch barrel. Which one would you guys recommend. I would like to know the pros and cons of each.The weight doeswnt bother me much and I prefer revolvers.

Both are fine revolvers,though a bit big for most people. Although I like the older stuff, in Georgia you will be carrying it in hot, humid weather. That would give the stainless 686 the edge. Other than that, either one should get you through the night.

It's your call, both are great choices. FWIW, I wore a M28 yesterday, it carried comfy enough.

I am having a hard time choosing. I like the feel of both revolvers. I know the stainless is better for humid weather but Ilove the look of the older blued revolvers. I am gonna try and shoot both a little more to helpwith the decision.

Between those two choices, I would go with the 686 for carry.

Or, you could trade it on a 627 and have the best of both worlds (stainless, and an N-Frame... plus two extra rounds).

While either are good guns, neither would be my first choice for CCW, based on their size. This is especially true in an area with very warm weather most of the time.

I regularly carry one of two revolvers, a 2" Model 36 and a 3" Model 65. I consider either of them much easier to carry than an N-Frame Smith.

That being said, I'm working on a high ride OWB for my 4" Model 29-2. But then this is solely for winter carry in Ohio. It would NEVER work out for me in the South most of the time.

686 for me, it's probably sacrilege to say this here, but I just don't care for N-frame 357's. To me an N-frame caliber should start with a 4. There's just something about the weight of that big ol' cylinder with the little holes that doesn't feel right when shooting double action.

I carried a Model 28 on my hip for 20 years. I love it, but I wouldnt consider it to be a good CCW canadate. My pocket isn't big enough.

Between the two, I'd choose the lightest.

I like the looks of both. I thinka s far as weight they are about the same. Maybe a couple ounces difference. I have heard nothing but good about both of them. I am planning on shooting both a little more and see what i handle the best.

Neither one of those are well suited for CCW. Yes, yes, I know there are those that will swear up and down that it's no problem... but... the rest of us in Realityville know different.

Some feel that way Photo. I like revolvers for CCW. Ga is an Open carry state and Ive had no issues with the Police in my area. I will mainly use it for Winter but will carry it in the summer also. There is not much difference than the 1911's everyone carrys. The weight is about the same only a little wider. I dont find them an issue to carry.Thanks for your input though

I find the 1911 much easier to carry than a similar weight revolver. The 1911 is slim and carries IWB very well. I flat out never found a good way to CCW a full size, full weight revolver. Let me know what you end up using...

I carry cross-draw and find that my 2.5 or 3-inch 686 carries just as well as my Glock 32 or 36.

Obviously your mileage may vary.........

I carry 2 guns all the time 1 of them is a 2 inch model 36,i won't leave home with out it,enough said!

I have recently become fascinated with them. I love their simple reliability and no frills use. I shoot auto better but and getting very good with revolvers. I feel comfortable with both.
