Evening, which of these would be the best option to learn about repairs, parts and overall components of my 64-3 and 15-2 double action S&W revolvers?

I own the first edition.
I don't own modern 1990 ++ Smiths

I own the first edition. I just bought the new expanded 5th edition. Not much difference if you buy the 5th without the unneeded disc. Much more information in the 5th edition. Buy it.

I only own the first edition so I do not have a comparison. One would typically think the latest version would be the most complete and up to date with any errors or admissions being corrected. I would also think (and hope) the latest version would have improved pictures and illustrations.

I don't own any S&W's manufactured after 1994 and therefore I am not in the market for a new edition. The original version taught me what I needed to understand to repair anything I own. If you gravitate towards the vintage guns, than I suppose the least expensive one will do. If you see yourself or actually own newer models, then I'd go for the latest edition and again, if the illustrations are much improved, the latest version is probably the way to go as well

The first edition has 152 pages. The fifth edition has 207 pages. It's not just for late model S&Ws, it has much more information about gunsmithing all models and it's only a few more dollars.

Another vote for 5th Edition

I was looking for not only older (pre WWII) but also modern Models with stainless, 2 piece barrels, etc. so I bought the 5th Edition which does have great exploded view parts drawings and some very good "bench-tips" about the mostly minor repairs and checkpoints that I needed to check (and readjust or repair if necessary), on SA/DA trigger pull weights.

Especially helpful to me at least, were the parts drawings that showed factory part numbers because a lot of my guns were accumulated without box, or the original parts list and these drawings in the book show so many parts that are interchangeable with other models, thus confirming (or denying) some of the internet claims when buying parts.

Anyway........worked for me. Don't know about the earlier editions as I haven't seen them.

PS: If you have any used bookstores in your area..check them out. I got my 5th Edition at Ollies Bargain Store some years ago for about $10.00 and yea........I see from the OP that the INet pricing is way up there........like everything else.:D

Can’t recall mine off the top of my head. Pretty sure late 90s/early 00s bc it mentions MIM (and none too kindly), but doesn’t go into how to work on MIM guns.

I think any edition would be fine for the guns you mentioned.
