So my wife has offered to let me choose a revolver or two for my 50th birthday. I am allowed up to $2,000.

Should I choose a 4" Model 63 and a 4" Model 67-1, or one of my grail guns below:

2" Model 63
3" Model 650
3" Model 547
3" Model 686 CS-1
3" Model 696

I must also state that while some of my guns are babied, none of them remain unfired. Therefore I am not looking for unfired, boxed collectors only. Whatever is purchased will get fired and enjoyed.

I can reload all calibers except the rimfire of course.

Always wanted one of those 3" 547's but all of your
Grail Guns would make a good choice.
I would also go for the big "one" instead of two.
The harder to find guns are just gonna keep getting
harder. And more expensive.

I am turning 40 this year, but no such offers from my wife; yet!

Given that offer, I too would pick a grail gun!

Good luck and happy birthday!

I would go for the 67. I have a no dash. The sweetest action in my stable of Smiths. I don't know what they are going for, but 2 Gs wouldn't buy mine.

Since I figure folks are always going to end up buying what's on their grail list, here are a couple different takes:

A S&W Model 50. Chief's Special w/target sights, blue frame, nickel cylinder, made in 50s - 70s, but not many. I've only seen one in my life--that was in 1974 in Biloxi, MS. Interesting little toy. Not cheap, if she could find one.

Second thought: a gun made the year you were born. Lots of single malt Scotch whisky fans try to find a whisky distilled the year they were born. Like whisky though, a gun from then won't be cheap, either.

Happy Birthday!

I just hauled off and bought my own for that occasion--a nice little 60-4.

My pick would be the Model 67 for just all-around .38 Special fun.

No votes for the 2" 63 or the 696.

Most seem to be leaning toward one of the grail guns as I have been but 63 and 67 sure would get shot a lot. Thanks all for helping with this.

.38 Special and 9mm are my most shot calibers. .22Mag is almost impossible to find, and I can reload .44 Special but currently do not have any .44 guns or supplies so I think I will drop these two from consideration.

Thanks for the other suggestions as well! There is a 5" 610 that is being discussed as a trade in another section of this forum and I'm considering it.

Lets see, 50 years, how about a 50 caliber?
500 Magnum fits that bill.
They don't make any hand gun In a caliber for how old I'll be in 4 months.... :(

Thanks for the suggestion, definitely different! :D

However, doesn't really fit into my collection of mostly J and K Frames that are easy to shoot.

I have mostly 2 and 3" J's / 3 and 4" K's

One L Frame 686 and one N Frame 625.

A shooter 547 could go to the range whenever I'm taking all the 9mm Smith Third Gens. :)
