So sort of a theoretical question: Which would you prefer to carry, a MR9 (SW99) or a 6906?

(I actually usually carry either one of these two or a CS45 or Beretta PX4compact with a laser, a SW99 .40 compact, or a SW3914LadySmith in a deep pocket.)

However, I'm curious about what folks might choose between a Magnum Resarch MR9 (or SW99 or Walther P99 as they are all esentially the same gun); and

A FrankenSmith -- 6906 frame and 3904 slide and barrel (the original 6906 slide was unsightly and the sights were a wee bit damaged, it's apparently an "evidence" gun and I replaced it with the slightly longer slide as it really doesn't affect carry).

Both are the same size; capacity in both is adequate, trigger in MR9 is 8#DA and 4#SA, the 6906ish goes 11#DA and 5.5# SA but it's never been worked on. Paddle release vs button is not an issue with me; and both guns have been 100% reliable with the ammo I carry.

So I'm curious as to perceived (or actual) differences in people's perception and/or experience. (I know deep down I should focus on one or two carry guns and get really, really good at them, but I've got such nice options I hate not availing myself of all that craftsmanship, history and effectiveness. 40 or 45? 9 or 40? 9 or .45? I doubt that caliber would make a real-life difference if I ever had to use one, and my lifestyle now doesn't put me at any extra-ordinary situations, except when it would.)

So wadda ya think?

6906 with Hogue grips & Mec-Gar 17rd mag is my favorite cary gun, if you don't like the mag hanging out the bottom then go with 5900 series 15rd mag with adapter.

I would prefer to carry the 6906. But if the 99 worked well for me, that is what I would likely carry. Because I'd hate to leave a gun I liked in an evidence lockup.

I would not carry either one because they are too big for my tastes.
But if I had to pick one, I would go with the 6906 because it is more streamlined and you would have more of a holster selection.
Safety is a bad design on the 6906 though. Too easy to activate the safet by mistake when racking the slide just like the Beretta 92.

Of all the mentioned choices, I'd have to go with the 3914. However, I would be uncomfortable carrying it or any of the other options for my EDC. I own or have own many of your choices and carried a few for months or a year.

I believe the choice really depends on many factors, such as, your physique, carry position choice, holster options, length, weight, and mechanics of the handgun, and drawing and shooting competence.

I carried revolvers on and off the job for more than 3 decades and I'm comfortable with their triggers. I feel good about selecting a DAO model 3953 or 4053 as a CCW because I've chosen to carry IWB just in front of my hip bone. That carry position has me eliminating the striker fired choices and guns with barrel lengths greater than 3.5 inches.

So, I'll settle for the 3914 because it is close to my favorite 3953, but the TDA mechanics is a strike against it and it's not a perfect choice for me.

Good luck with your personal quest. It took me years to find my best option.

Another vote for the 6906. From your choice of P99 or 6906.

But personally, I agree with URIT and prefer a 3914 to both the P99 and 6906. Good luck with your decision! Regards 18DAI

My EDC for the past 30 years is some form or S&W 39xx... mostly a 3913NL with Hogue wood grips. Followed by a S&W Performance Center Shorty-9 ( think 6906) if I want higher capacity.

In .45 I'm fond of the Sig 220 or 245 compact...... decocker only

As a rule DA/SA for concealed carry............

SW99 in .40 S&W, no contest.

I love the 3rd Gen Smiths, (I even own a CHP 4006TSW) but not enough to attempt to carry one, they're just too thick/heavy for me.

If you had asked this question prior to 2018 when I finally overcame my biased for metal framed pistols, then I would have answered in favor of the 6906, but not anymore.

That being said, I would happily carry one of the smaller, lighter 3rd Gens like the Chief's Specials, namely the CS40, but then again I'd sooner carry my M&P40 Shield due to the scarcity of the CS40.

I like both, but believe I would vote for the 6906. The 39/59/69 series da/sa system with the long throw for the first shot is kind of an added layer of safety , a little added margin of protection from a knee jerk reactionary bang by a startled shooter......

I would carry the top one in the picture because it looks way more cool.
That's the #1 deciding factor, ain't it?
The other one's a cheezy, black plastic gun with rails and a squared-out trigger guard. Yuck-o. (Please don't take any of my comments personally.:))

Your 6906 is getting a lot of votes.

Isn't the 6906 a FrankenSmith? That is the reason I dismissed it from consideration. I wouldn't want to have to use it and then deal with the legal fallout.
