White Box .45acp Misfires

Hi:
I normally use Winchester White Box .45acp FMJ ammo (Wal-Mart) for practice/qualification. I have occassionly misfires. Weapon is a Model 25-2 with moon clips. Primers on misfires appears to have light firing pin strikes.
Sometimes a second try will fire and sometimes not. I wondering if this could be caused by a hard primer? All other fired cases show good firing pin strikes.

I would suspect a primer not completely seated, but I suppose it could be a hard primer. Could be either I guess....

Have you got a spring kit in that gun Jimmy?
Are your running plastic or steel moons?

Check your strain screw tight?

Weapon is straight factory. I never thought that I could improve on the factory experts.

I've shot many thousands of WWB 45ACP in training and qualifications without any problems. Most of the ammo was fired through S&W pistols, but my 625-6 shoots WWB just fine.

Mainspring Tension Screw is tight.
The misfires has happened with this ammo when using steel and plastic moon clips.
Firing pin appears to be ok and mainspring also.

shot a ton of that ammo through my 1911 colt, never had a misfire, could be the gun?

I shoot it all the time through a 625 without problem. Are any of your clips bent?

Have you tried the failed round a second time, or in another gun. In my experience, they work the second time or in another gun about 80%.

Makes me wonder about the box I have on the way... I've been hearing a few complaints like this and possible hard/unset primers from WWB. However I've had no trouble with .40 Ranger T and they should use the same, so idk...

I can't recall whether it was the WWB or the WinClean stuff I read something about, back about a month and a half ago? I can't drag it all out of the corroded memory banks, but it was something about why the hard ignition?

If it does it with other ammo, it likely is the gun. If it does not do it with other ammo, it likely is the ammo.

Have you had the same issue with Remington and Federal ammo? If not, then call Winchester and tell them your problem. They will replace the ammo at no cost.

Hi:
I installed a new factory mainspring and mainspring strain screw and the problem is gone. Tested fired different ammo brands and everything is 100%.

Had the same issue with my 625, the strain screw was loose. After tighten never happened again.

i have a thunder ranch 45 acp revolver that did the same thing. i replaced the firing pin with a cylinder&slide longer pin and it made no difference. i noticed the mainspring screw was not seated down as it should be but was tight. i measured the head on the screw and found it was several thousands too thick. i put the screw in the lathe and removed a few thousands from under the head and it seated down properly and never had any more missfires.

Have had broplems with The Win-clean but never had any problems with the WWB in .45.

White box ammo

How old is the ammo?

Reason for asking: for a period of time 4-5 years ago, a significant amount of 45 white box was manufactured by S&B for Winchester.
This ammo can be identified by two dots on the headstamp beneath the Winchester name.

A couple of experienced shooters told me they had one of two primers that were not fully seated with this ammo.

However, your issue sounds more like it is weapon specific.
