I was shooting at a range the other day when I noticed that the shooter to my right was smearing white lithium grease all over the rails of his Beretta 92 and Sig 225.

Is this a good practice? Looking at the product in the big box stores, the price is right.

Any input from our Smith and Wesson fans?

Thanks

It's a bit heavy in colder weather. I've used it in very warm weather. I like the Tetra liquid lube better. Now is a good time to expect a lot of information on favorite lubes. I have at least 8 other good ones.

I use Lubriplate 105 (not lithium but it is white ;)) from NAPA on my rails and AR bolt carrier groups and believe operation is much smoother. After use a shot of CLP in various locations keeps it juicy.

Wet and dirty beats dry and dirty any day.

I'm partial to marine wheel bearing grease myself. A barely visible coat on the rails works like a champ.

I use KY Jelly For Her. She purrs like a kitten and chambering is very smooth!

I was wondering about using it. It is a bit more sticky and tenacious than regular wheel bearing grease.

Some say, If it rolls, oil it, if it slides, grease.

Some truth to that.

I didn't use grease in the South Dakota winters, but here it's no problem.

I've been using White LIthium Grease on all my semi-autos for the last year or so (that's when the Shooter's Choice syringe ran out). I got a tub of it and 3 flux brushes to apply it with for about $10. It works great all year round for me, even in winter time out door shoots. I also packed some into the empty Shooter's Choice syringe, this has become my prefered method of application.

Interesting read on lubricants. I started using Lubriplate "SFL" NLGI #0 grease after reading Grant's article. It is a food grade grease that works better than several of the "gun" greases I had used over the years.

You can get it factory direct

Lubriplate
