I've been thinking of getting a pair of Whites boots and before I lay out the cash for a pair I thought I would get opinions from some members here about them.

I am looking at the farmer-rancher model in the Whites line and the Hathorn Hi-Line farmer-rancher model. Also the Vintage model in the Whites line.

I suspect some members here own Whites so thanks to any and all replies and advice.

Buffalo boots in Seattle used to compete with Whites in the high price boot market. Generally customers did not purchase Buffaloes in standard sizes off the shelf. You went in to be measured and a boot was made to fit each foot. If your work caused you to wear out some place like the toes you could take them back in and they’d replace the toes. During the 1980s they cost about double what a comparable pair of Red Wings cost. Not considering that Buffalo would replace worn out panels the two brands actually wore out at the same rate. For that reason unless you can get White to build boots for your individual feet most of the higher price goes for pride of ownership.

Incidentally, don’t walk on ocean beaches in your expensive boots. The salt rusts away the nails.

White's are pretty expensive, but they are an extremely well made boot. There are many who are repeat customers.

I own a thirty year old pair of White's packers. They were custom. I've had them rebuilt twice. I also have a newer pair of Hathorn packers. The White's will last forever. The Hathorn's are awesome boots as well, but more along the line of RedWings or Chippewas, which I also own. Whites could be the last pair of boots you ever buy. Worth every penny.

I thought this thread was about white boots also known as cajun reboks

If you plan to be a Whites repeat customer, you need to buy them while you are young and wear them everyday.
They last a long, long time!

'White Boots' by Stevie Ray Vaughan ?????? I think you need to listen to the song before you buy the white boots!! :) Great song though!!!

I have 3 pair of Whites Boots, a pair of 10" Hunter a pair of 6" Rancher and a pair of Pac boots. I was disappointed to discover that the Pac's were make in Korea. They are excellent boots. They sold the company last year. Here is a copy and paste from Wikipedia.

"In July 2014, White's Boots was sold to LaCrosse Footwear of Portland, Oregon, which also owns Danner Boots. LaCrosse Footwear's chief financial officer, Kirk Layton, cited the made in America heritage of White's Boots as a motivating factor for the buyout. LaCrosse Footwear is itself owned by Tokyo-based retailer ABC-Mart."

I do not know if quality will suffer. There is another source for quality boots made in Spokane. Check out Nicks Boots at nicksboots.com, they claim to be what Whites used to be. My podiatrist has told me I need to wear boots to support my feet because of old age and other aliments. The only problem with the 6" boots is that small rocks tend to get inside the boots too easy. I am going to purchase a pair of 8" Nicks boots soon. The 10" hunter boots are great but as they are insulated they are a bit much to wear during the summer. Nicks have a fitting chart where you have someone trace out the outline of your foot and take measurements at various locations of your foot. I believe that Whites also has this but am not sure.

I had no idea White's had been sold. With a foreign ownership it's only a matter of time before they're all made by 2 dollar a day orphans. Will the price go down? Not a chance. Thanks for the tip on nick's.

I have a pair of White's Boots (10" Smoke Jumper) that I bought in 1998 and have had them re-soled and also rebuilt one time each.

They are custom made to fit my feet and very comfortable to wear, and have served me well as a wildland firefighter working many hours a day on firelines.

In the long run your feet will thank you and you will get your money's worth out of either White's, Nick's, or Buffalo brand boots.

I've worn several of White's boots....Hathorn packers,
custom built dress packers and their cowboy style of rubber pac boot.

I'd buy from them any time.

Hawthornes aren't what they used to be. I only got ten years out of my last pair.

Been a Hunter and Camper since I was a Kid and I have not heard of Whites Boots until now. On that note I am sure there are plenty of other things I have not heard about yet. :) From the prices I have just seen they had better be some damned great boots! I bought a pair of LL Bean insulated Kangaroo Boots about 8 years ago and think they are "the nuts" and they are still reasonably priced. If the whites are as good as some tout and you use those type of boots on a regular basis - go for it!
