Now that's what I call excellent genetics!
 
Weird...... Disney moment in the backyard yesterday .........Bambi redux...

8 point and 6 point bucks.... in velvet....with

a doe and a fawn (still in spots) moving as a family group (all within 25 ft radius) .

First time I've seen mature bucks with does this time of year!
 
it is still way to hot in MS for me to want to wade into the ticks & chiggers to put out a trailcam right now. Temp's in the upper 90's and humidity at 200% (or so it feels)
 
I can't get on board with the whole concept of farming deer. Raising them into unnatural creatures under unnatural conditions proves nothing to me. As wild critters they should be left as such - just my opinion.

They aren't and never were completely wild. Its no different than a person that raises beef cattle, horses, or goats. "Unnatural" you say? Its all about genetics, feed, and allowing them to mature. Someone always has to come along with a remark that ruins a good thread!

It is different. Talking flippantly about owning wild animals and them coming from a "farm that [your] deer came from" strikes me as, well, flippant.

I appreciate whitetails, hunting them, and looking at them, but the attitude and mindset you presented crossed the line and is no longer "hunting," and is disrespectful, in my humble opinion.

As far as deer farming goes, I have no problem with it. It is just like any other livestock at that point. I do however agree, that it isnt hunting. Unless these animals have no human contact throughout there lives, they will not present the challenge. I once watched a program where this guy was sitting in a ground blind "hunting" and the (i believe it was deer, my memory is foggy on that point) walked right up to the blind and was feeding from the trough attached to the dog gone thing. To me there is no sport in that, and I will give no kudos regardless of how big the rack you got is. Hunting is hunting, farming is farming. I personally dont feel you can have both in the same situation, but thats just me. I dont mean to sound judgemental, thats just my opinion. :o

We like them so much we built them a park, White Tail Park.
Now of course these white tails don't wear no cloths, so I guess that is why it's called white tail park.

I suppose that as long it is framed up correctly, there is no harm, no foul:

Deer farming - deer raised, fed and killed (not "hunted") for the express purpose of feeding self and/or others.

Cattle farming - Cattle raised. fed and killed (not "hunted") for the express purpose of feeding self and/or others.

When farmers slaughter bovine for their meat, they have not "hunted" it. Don't see much difference here with the deer.

"Flippant" definition - Lacking proper respect or seriousness.

Sorry but I haven't a clue what you're talking about. I simply posted two pictures of two very good looking whitetail deer that were bred, born, raised and live in captivity on a deer farm that a friend of mine operates. The deer that I own were bred on this same farm in captivity and were bought by me legally according to PA state laws. Then, someone who must have no idea of how this concept works, bashes this thread which was only meant to show the beauty of the animal and has nothing at all to do with "hunting." The deer on this farm are not hunted and as far as I know, none of them have ever been killed by the owner for meat. Now you come along and add your ridiculous two cents. So tell me, what part of all that is "disrespectful? In my opinion, I find your remarks nothing more than jabberwocky!
 
I have one like that and he had about 9 does with him. I hope he passes on his genes before someone hangs him to bleed out. I'd rather not harvest these bigger ones make sure there genes are well passed on first.

Where's the beef? It's in Texas of course.

ITS NOT A HUNTING PRESERVE AND NOTHING IS HUNTED THERE - ITS PRIVATELY OWNED AND SHE LIKES TO RAISE DEER - NOTHING MORE AND NOTHING LESS!!!! Which part of that is so difficult to understand? Geeze :( !

Yes, I refuse to participate in the organised "hunting", I am a purist, I don't always hunt deer, but when I do...I refuse to kill deer that have been managed by wildlife specialists, or with a modern tool, like a rifle (boomerang, rock or stick for me). Never shall I, the purist, buy a "license" either, as these funds are used to count and even set "limits". POPPYCOCK I say. And....I hunt in the nude, as well.:D
 
I am a bit confused here. You stated it is where "you're deer came from". Then you say "nothing is hunted there". Looking for a little clarification with no disrespect intended.

I'm going to assume he bought live deer, probably/possibly as breeding stock to populate his land and/or area, depending on whether they are allowed to roam or are fenced.

This thread may not have derailed so fast if the first post had been clearer. That post made me think his deer had been 'taken' till I read further.

So, OP's call-
would you prefer to clarify it?

OP, my earlier post was in no way directed towards you or your op, merely an ill-placed rant on my part. I honestly meant no disrespect or to insinuate that harvesting them was your intent! I happen to find deer to be very elegant and pleasing to look at just as you do. I sadly live more in the city now and I really do miss the countryside. Instead of coyotes yipping and howling at night i hear a train going by, and to have the ability to look out onto my property and see such wildlife would be a blessing. So congrats on such beautiful creatures and thank you for sharing them with us.

Pa Reb........ in the "burbs of the burg"....... we don't have to buy or raise whitetails........ they come with the mortgage.......

MI-LPtroll/TexMes....... come on down/up to Pa. I can hunt deer in my PJs ..... by dropping a rock on their heads...... from our deck......

Now Somerset is another matter........ they are a lot fewer and far between than in my youth.
