Who has a 5" 627 PC?

Is it possible to put a holo sight on the 627PC? I do t mean the big, boxy EOTechs, but kind that just has a vertical forward glass and the reticle adjustment knob sitting flat to the rear? I'm trying to decide if I can use the 627PC for a hunting handgun since I can't seem to find any 627 Hunters for sale.

Sure. Just about everyone sells a sight that will fit on a Weaver mount. If you want to go higher end, there's a guy over on Enos that sells a very low mount for the C-More sight.

Nills definitely have the sharpest looking grips. Even the ones I see for their Sigs make me want to get a Sig just to put some on.

I'm too cheap however.. so I end up getting discounted Hogues, haha.

Nice thing about grips is that you can buy a nice set and if you sell the gun, keep the grips and put them on some other revolver.

I've been gazing at this gun for the past few days. I've been planning on buying a 686+ 6" for the last few months, but I can't seem to get the 627 PC off my mind. Is it worth spending the extra $300? Thanks for any help. -Wade-

It depends on what you plan to use it for. As a general purpose shooter, plinker, ICORE or bowling pin matches, hunting, night-stand self-defense, it's a great gun and hard to beat. If you want to shoot either IPSC or IDPA revolver, you'll find it's either illegal (IDPA), or has to be shot in the same "open" class with fully comped-out red-dot 22 shot mag race-guns (IPSC) leaving you at a massive competitive disadvantage. So, if you're not planning on using it for IDPA or IPSC/USPSA matches, you're golden.

Wow really! That sucks. I was hoping to possibly use it in matches in the future.

If you're thinking in terms of possible IDPA or IPSC matches with it, the 627 8-shot 5" is not your gun. Then again, neither is the 686+, as both disciplines only allow 6 round in the cylinder, and you definitely don't want to download your gun or speed-loaders!!!

I think the premier gun for IDPA is the 686SSR, although a 66, 67 or 620 works just great too. Barrel lengths of more than 4" are not allowed. For IPSC you probably want a 625 or a difficult to find 610, but the SSR would work there too, making the SSR a very versatile do-it-all gun. I personally think that might be the way for you to go.

At the risk of repeating myself, I would strongly encourage you to check out the 686SSR. It looks quite similar to the 627PC, has the slab sided barrel and matte SS finish. It is an L frame rather than an N, and has a 4" barrel, so is slightly scaled down.

As a small disclaimer here since I realize that gun nutz tend to promote what they themselves own or shoot, I own a 627PC and do not own a 686SSR.....but the 686 is on my short list.

After your input and reading IDPA rules starting on pg17 http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf I am now strongly considering the 686SSR. Once again, thank you VERY much for your help. -Wade-

I don't think you'll regret it. And I think the SSR will be every bit as good an "all around" as a 627PC, albeit with 2 less rounds in the cylinder, but hey, revolvers have traditionally been "six shooters" for a century and a half, not to mention the fact that you'll have $200+ to spare which is enough to set you up with a decent holster, speed loaders/holder, and some ammo!

Our dialog here has me seriously thinking about picking up an SSR too. I presently use a 4" 66-7 for IDPA, and it's just fine for that purpose, excellent actually, but I really want the SSR badly! The only reason I didn't buy one long ago was the fact that I have a hard time justifying it given the fact that I have the 66 already.......but I've almost talked myself into it!! Let me know if you get one and maybe we'll have to compare notes!!
