I remember the first time I bought a case of ammo. It was ten 50 round boxes of Remington .40 S&W practice ammo. Now, most of the ammo I buy is by the case.

500 rounds is the largest quantity I have bought at one time. Most of my purchases are (were) in 150 to 200 rounds at a time.

I've purchased cases of shotgun ammo and cases of 22lr standard velocity surplus ammo.

Just yesterday, I bought a flat of 20ga.

Up until 2020 went crazy, and ammo prices were still good/cheap; I could buy boxes/50 or 100 rounds as cheap as buying by the case. I've never been in a position to buy by the case. Figured as long as I could get it at the same price by the box, why spend the money all at once? I could get brass case target rounds locally for $8/50 ($160/K). Those days, sadly, are gone :-(

I have, a couple of years ago, bought a couple of cases of 12 gauge 00 that was on sale. I have also from time to time bought a case of ammo to take to a class when they required factory new ammo rather than my own reloads, or when it was convenient or cheap to do so. Mostly I roll my own.

In 2018 and 2019 I was buying one or more cases of ammo a month. Earlier this year I saw the prices starting to rise and purchased a few more cases before prices went out of sight, if you could find any at all.

I am sitting on at least 25 thousand rounds of factory ammo in all the calibers I shoot. It feels good to have plenty of factory ammo since it looks pretty bleak for the future.

I reload both rifle and pistol calibers, I buy pistol 9mm and 22LR by the case. Rifle is for accuracy.

I have bought ammunition by the case for 25+ years now.

It is extremely rare that I buy less than a case.

On two occasions, the deal was so good, I bought a full pallets and split with buddies at my shooting club. Both of those pallets were Federal Match ammunition. One was 38 Special midrange wadcutter match and the other was the Remington 45ACP SWC Match loading.

I know that in current times, manufacturers are boxing 500 rounds to a case or 200 rounds to a case of Premium ammunition. We used to call those Pony Cases

When I first got into this hobby, I was always on the lookout for ammo, regularly stopping into all the LGS. I was even ammo shopping in my dreams. Then I read here on the forum about mail order ammo. Whoo boy, what a relief. A few mouse clicks and then cases of ammo come and find me!!

Back in the 90s I was shooting a lot, averaging probably 1000 rounds/month. Where I lived we had a gun show every 3 months or so. I would go to the gun show with a hand truck and pick up a 1000-round case each of .38 Special, 9mm, and .45ACP, commercially-reloaded ammo. IIRC, each case was right around $100. That would last me until the next gun show.

It's been several years since I've bought by the case.

I live about 45 min away from AIM Surplus. That's a good thing and a bad thing. Then I was introduced to SG Ammo and AmmoSeek. I started to buy case amounts of ammo back in the 90's when prices were low and that stock got me through quite a few of the supply shortages. As prices came back down over the past 2 yrs, I started to restock the ammo that I had used up from my 90's stash. I can't remember the last time I bought ammo by the box.

I buy 22, 9mm and .223 by the case since I shoot a lot of it. When ammo got really cheap a few years ago I started buying 9mm two cases at a time once or twice a year. But I do not shoot 308 and 12 gauge very often so I buy it by the box. With 44 it is somewhere in between. I typically buy about 250 to 500 rounds at a time.

I have a friend that claims if the UPS guy can get all of your ammo order to your door in one trip with a hand truck you didn't buy a lot of ammo. So by his standards I have never ordered a lot of ammo.

I used to buy shotgun shells 20-30 cases at a time.

Since I went blind in my dominant eye and switched from sporting clays to handguns, I have bought a few cases of .22 and centerfire handgun ammo one case or brick at a time.
