I have a 625-9 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt and I'm thinking of sending the cylinder to Pinnacle and having it cut so I can shoot .45ACP out of it. I'd appreciate any thoughts from users who have had this mod.

Thanks!

I'm curious about the same thing! I tried calling Pinnacle during the week and just got an answering machine.

This is a relatively easy change for a master gunsmith. Here's a link to the very best in my opinion. John Blauvelt in Wallkill, NY is hard to beat. Plus, he's timely and won't rob your wallet.

I am considering doing the moonclip cutting on my M25 .45 Colt. The only thing that concerns me is the real possibility of reduced accuracy since the longer .45 Colt chamber lacks the bullet diameter throat portion that the .45 ACP chamber has. It would mean almost 1/2" bullet jump to the .45 Colt throat, and that could ruin accuracy.

Has anyone measured group sizes before and after the conversion to moonclips?

Not sure which way it will go. I have a 610 and use 40 S & W ammo on clips with good accuracy. I have a Ruger with separate 45 LC and 45 ACP cylinder, when used with the ACP cylinder accuracy is terrible. About 5" @ 25 yds.

Pinnacle did my 625-6 .45 Colt. I usually shoot the Keith 270 grain 45 lead bullet over 7 grains of 231 and my MG is a tack driver. I switch to 230 gr XTPs over 5 grains of TG and the ACPs shoot a foot low at 25 yards. Accuracy is the same as far as I can tell, I just have to find an ACP and a Colt load that has about the same POI. Guess that will force me into more range time..shucks!
