Sorry for the confusion, I put Gunbroker in the title, it is GunsAmerica.

I have a 6906 with the S/N TDS66xx. It is in very good condition and I really like how it feels. It is also my 12th or 13th Smith, so I like Smith and Wesson products.
That aside, I contacted S&W by e-mail and requested the production date. They responded quickly with a date of 2000. However, on GunsAmerica they are selling the same 6906 with the same pre-fix of TDS and claim the date to be 1990.

The question is, who is correct? Smith and Wesson or GunsAmerica. I am keeping the e-mail with the 2000 date as proof in case I need work on the gun. 1994 started the lifetime warrantee.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The email from S&W is correct. S&W serial numbers don't go in any logical order but throughout the TDM to TDS range is around the year 2000 production. However if you have a TDA prefix SN it is early 1990-91 production.

6906

Curious. The Standard Catalog of S & W page 320 lists production of the 6906 ending in 1999. But your serial prefix is not listed in the serial # section

The lifetime warranty started in February 1989 with some of the first 3rd generation pistols.

My 6906 with serial number beginning TDN was shipped in 1999 and my 3913TSW with serial number beginning TDM was also shipped in 1999. These dates are from my factory letters on the pistols. The date of 2000 sounds about right for your TDS.

Thanks, I feel better knowing it is only 11 years old and not 21.

My error, I thought the lifetime started in 1994, but 1989 is even better.

Keep in mind that S&W probably gave the date the pistol shipped from the factory. That's all they give in their factory letters, i.e., when it was shipped from the factory.

I looked at a 4006 with a TDP prefix and S&W also said 2000 for a production year.

I'd believe S&W before someone selling the gun on a online auction site.
