I just ordered a 686 Deluxe, my first .357 mag - can't wait to get it.

Now I can start thinking of anything else that I want/need to order for it... reloading dies, holster, speed loader ...

I see that there are some speed loaders out there, but wondered if any of them are more highly regarded than the others.

Wow, eight years to your first post. Well, great choice of wheelgun. I use HKS speedloaders, but just for reloads, not competition, with a double HKS belt carrier. The push type might be better for competition.

Enjoy, and stop back with a range report and pictures.

My 686-6+'s with HKS speedloaders at left.

get the 357 & 38 spl reloading dies that way you can reload for both. I like the 357 mag so you can shoot both in it

Don't forget Rosewood grips! Also a fiber optics front sight. I got an A. E. Nelson 393 cowboy style holster.

If you want to be like me and Hickok45 (and a number of others here) I would recommend a JW O'Rourke pancake for it:

Great looking holster! Can you tell me the cost? I'm interested in ordering one, but don't see the price listed on his site...

And, congratulations ghh3rd, you're going to love your new .357!

Great choice. Yeah, if you're a reloader, you'll definitely want the 38/357 dies.

If I could only have one of my 357's it would be my 686+ 3" great revolver you will
Be very pleased! Widow

$130 for a pancake holster of obscene IMHO. Although, I've no doubt they are nice. Buy a Desantis pancake for $45 and you won't likely regret it. Also, the upgrade I would want first is a HiViz front sight. But opinions will vary.

+1 for the DeSantis! I just picked one up for my 686 PLUS 3", and it's perfect! It's almost identical to my all time favorites, Galco FLETCH, but at about half the cost, with no sacrifice in quality.

The Safariland CompII speadloaders are the bomb! But, they still have yet to make 7 rd versions!! Despite my blowing up their inbox regulary.

Why?? I have no idea! There are so many 7 shot L frames in S&W's line up but the folks in Ontario can't see the forest because the trees are in the way....:(

The HKS loaders get the vote for simplicity and relative compactness. The SL Variant loaders are truly the best, except they're made from unobtanium. Speed-Beez makes some pretty slick 7rd loaders but they're bulkier than the HKS but they're faster for sure.

The thing I like about the 7 rd L frames is the indexing time is shorter than it's 6 rd brother. That makes for a very nice trigger.

Congrats, your going to really like it. I sure do like my 3".

Few things in life are more awesome than a 3" 686! I mean happiness may be a warm puppy for some people. But for me...
