I got to spend the afternoon at my range in the woods. Okay, it's not "my range" but I always have it completely to myself. I shot a small variety of firearms (I always take more than I'm able to shoot) and one of them was my Contender. I shot several groups, and on the last shot of one of them, there was a big spray of debris. Apparently, the top sandbag had crept forward, and the muzzle blast tore it wide open. Thankfully these are cheap and easily made. I didn't photograph the group, because 1" groups at 50 yards with this are so easy it's almost boring.

I blew a hole in one with the B/C gap on my 22 Jet. It was was full of lead shot.

Better than the guy who got a brand new 300 WM. took it out to one of Montana's wide open spaces, set it up on bags on the hood of his truck and had the muzzle blast break his windshield.

Or my nephews nit wit son who managed to shoot, not just one hole in the hood of his Dodge, but 2. I kid you not.

Around here trucks with splotches of paint missing or blast marks on the hood are not that uncommon.

I have driven out to a prairie dog down, set up bags on my hood and gone to shooting myself. But, not with big bore magnums.

The first time I shot an AR "pistol", it was from a sandbag rest from the bench. Yep, the muzzle was a little too close to the front bag. Little black filler beads everywhere... I thought it was some kind of cartridge malfunction with unburned powder until I realized what had happened.

I made the mistake once (only once) of using a roll of blue shop towels as a rest for a quick sights check on a 629.
The confetti cloud stopped my heart but I don't think I've ever seen my dad laugh so hard.
Cylinder gap is a real thing.

This! ^^^^ Yes, indeedy it's a real thing. Way back when, I had a spitting revolver. Pretty worn and loose. My buddy next to me reported particles coming his way. In our brilliance, he agreed to hold a piece of paper by the gap while I fired. Trouble is he dangled it from his thumb and index finger - in line with the gap.

I fired, he bled, we cussed. Learned a lesson that day.

That revolver made a trip back to the mother ship and S&W returned it good as new. Still have it and it doesn't spit.

One of my buds from work was shooting off his dogbox at a whitetail one Saturday when he was showered with fiberglass. He had shredded his long cb antenna. Don't remember if he got the buck or not.

My mom would slap an iron-on patch on those jeans and send me back out to play.

One of these? :)

Ask any old IHMSA Silhouette shooter that ever shot a 10" Contender in the Creedmore position. How many shredded pants legs they had. Muzzle blast rom any center fire cartridge is to be respected.

I seen a few of them Contender Shooters act like they was Fred Astaire. They had some moves that would be hard to copy.

That's why at my local outdoor range; sand bags are few and far between! I always take my Caldwell bags with me. They are filled with dry rice.
