Who's putting out a garden this year?

The "Cherokee Rose" purple tomato plants that I have just sprouted in the starter.

I've always wanted to try these purple tomato plants...

I am so jealous! The funny thing is that I grew up in Northwest Pennsylvania in the Allegheny mountains that looked very similar to your picture. I left when I was 17 to join the Navy and I couldn't wait to get out of there... now, I would LOVE to be back there. Although, the weather is MUCH nicer in South West Virginia than it is in Northwest PA... so... I would rather be where you are.

I might be able to plant a decent garden this year but it would be a late one. I made an offer on a nice 2600 sq.ft. brick home on over 1/2 acre in a fairly secluded subdivision. I low balled the hell out of em... as in 15% less than they had just re-listed for and the re-list price was 33% off from the original asking price. It is owned by a bank... so in reality I already own part of the property anyway.

Its not the acreage that I would really like, but it is four times more land than the house that I have now. I was considering keeping the house we own now to rent it out. The neighbors would prefer that I sell it due to irrational fears about renters. Personally, I wouldn't mind being a landlord... but I really don't have the time. So... I am in the process of sprucing up the paint and all that to put it on the market. Anyone looking in the New Orleans Area?

Might put out a handful tomato and pepper plants again this year. Haven't for the last couple, just too busy I guess. Have to wait till after Memorial Day before planting them or a frost will get them for sure. Even then it's no sure thing.

We set up about 400 sf protected by cattle panels to keep wild hogs out and rabbit wire, but what about the coons? They steal all the peaches every year, and I suspect they'll rob the garden as well. Anybody have coon trouble? Any coon solution other than sitting up all night every night with the pistol?

I put in 2700sq ft of garden this year with the winter crop already yeilding brocolli, collard greens, and garlic. The rutabakers are about ready to pick. Got a good stand of corn, purple hull peas, white squash, lots of Big Boy tomatoes, okra, radishs, green beans, and a few mellons and some mustard greens. Sweet corn is about 6" high. The 7 pear trees are loaded as well as the 4 fig trees, 4 peach trees, but the 6 olive trees are not doing too well (my experiment). The 3 Japaneese persimmon trees are loaded. Pecan trees are just leafing out. Rain has been good,so far, should be a good crop.

I need to get busy on building some French gardens. Been wanting to build them for a few years now. This thread has motivated me.

My garden is large above ground redwood boxes, too many gophers.

I've got two early girl tomatoes, a dozen swiss chard, half a dozen summer squash.

I use alfalfa pellets (rabbit food) and gun powder plus coffee grounds and some egg shells for fertilizing and conditioning - works great!

I just took these pisctures last night. My 1976 Troy-Bilt Horse tiller, which is still going strong after 33 years, just chewed up my garden area, and it's now ready for planting.

I expanded the garden area to 1800 square feet this year. We're going to plant tomatoes, corn, beans, cucumber, squash, and giant Atlantic pumpkins.

Nice! I didn't even think about that... I'm going to need a tiller. This suburban living has made me ill prepared for things such as this. Of course, none of this will matter if my offer for the house isn't accepted. The house I own now has far too many trees on the lot to grow a decent garden.

Yesterday I planted my home garden, 225 square feet. 10 tomatoe plants, ten peppers, a row of squash and another row of zucchini.

This week our church will plant the Community Victory Garden, 900 square feet, tomatoes, peppers, squash, onions, beens, cucumbers, cabbage. etc.

This gardening is fun!

We have two acres of rocks, trees and deer. So we patio garden with tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.

Mine is much more modest than most of yours being only 10x40. Last weekend I planted snow peas, onions and lettuce. In about three weeks I'll put in pole beans, peppers and cucumbers. Tomatoes I grow in containers on the back porch.

We also have grapevines and apple trees if those count.
