WHY 9MM WHEN YOU CAN OWN A GLOCK 30 GEN 4 .45

I shoot wolf 45acp ball ammo most of the time. Years ago it was $6.72 a box of 50. I was given a LEE PRO 1000 progressive press set up for 45acp.
Purchased some SNS 230gr RN leadcast and pop them out like popcorn.

I have a hard time telling the differences between a Glock and a HI-Point the only difference is the price.

Having just last week purchased a used Hi Point JHP .45 I can say with some certainty that there are large differences in this pistol and any Glock I have ever held/shot/looked at. No I don't own a Glock but I have shot several. I bought the Hi Point because it was cheap and I won't worry about something happening to it under the seat of my pickup truck. It will NOT be my EDC, however.

Why 9mm over 45acp you ask. IMHO - recoil and you can get a smaller handgun with just as many rounds.

That's the beauty of the shooting sports - there are so many price ranges, choices and combinations that they seem endless. Different strokes for different folks.

Cheers!

I have the G34, the G43, and my newly purchased G30 and I love these Glock's but for ergonomics, accuracy, comfort the Walter PPQ M2 in either 9mm or .45 is way better than any of my Glock's. My only complaint is magazines are very expensive for the Walther's and not as many accessories not to mention they are more expensive then Glocks. But I still love my Glocks

A long time ago I had a Walther .22 handgun for target practice it was a great little handgun that I loved shooting. Before I started carrying Glocks for home protection, self defense or on the road protection I carried a Springfield XD 9mm 4" model and it was also a great weapon but I wanted to try out a Glock so I found one at the local range so I shot it down range found it quite nice felt great in my hand and etc.

I rotate a M&P 40 Shield 7+1 mag. & Taurus Millennium PT140 G2 40,10+1 rounds mag. I believe a 40 Cal. has great knock down power,just like a Compact 45 ACP.
Can't be that much difference, but i'm not an expert either . Just my opinion.

I have a friend in Virginia who's motto is "anybody worth shooting is worth shooting with a .45!" Hence, he bought a glock 30 for edc.

Last summer he and his wife came for a visit and naturally I asked him what he brought with him. He goes into his luggage and comes out with it. I asked him why he wasn't carrying it and he lifts his shirt and says - because I carry this now...a glock 42! Why?, I asked. "Man, the weight of that 30 gets heavy over the course of the day and sometimes I decided to leave it at home. I knew that wasn't good but I needed something light enough to carry ALL THE TIME, EVERY DAY. I just brought the 30 in case we went to the range."
That's point number 1.

I recommend going to the range and asking the range master to film you shooting your Shield 9mm - controlled pairs on a silhouette target, then do the same with the sub-compact .45 on a DIFFERENT target. If your groups are even close I will be amazed. Sub compact .45's are more difficult to place accurate follow-up shots with than a 9mm. And the difference in ballistics between the two is not worth the sacrifice in shot placement.
That's point number 2.

Most people don't reload either, so the cost of ammo can be a factor.

Yet, this is still America, and everyone is free to carry what they choose (unless they live in California or a few other places ;) )

You are right in the fact most average shooters CCW holders who go to range maybe 1x a year, yeah .45 in subcompact would be difficult to do controlled pairs. But The Gen4 G30 is heavier than the G30S and the recoil is very similar to that of a 9mm. I have not picked up my new G30 yet but sure I will shoot very well with it. I have a Walther PPQ in .45 and can shoo that almost as fast as my 9mm. The biggest advantage is the .45 holds 10 and more than my G43 and my Shield. I don't have a problem carrying a heavy pistol as I carry my Walther PPQ 9mm all day and no problem.

I always liked the 45! I have 3 now a Glock 30s.a Kimber 5" & a Kimber Pro carry 2 4". I have a 9mm H&K PSP & a few S & W revolvers.I find I carry the little old S&W model 60 more!! I also find I carry the PSP quite a bit.I'm used to it.I also shoot it better than "any"auto I've ever carried!

Adding my $0.02 to caliber/brand wars got me invited to leave another forum, so to all of you I say "Nice weather we're having."

Don't need to be a fan boy. I'm no fan boy. I only have 5 Glocks. I also only have 6 HKs. And only 2 Sigs.

I swore I would never have a Glock. Then I got one (was carrying a Commander in 38 Super=too big to pocket carry and gouged me in the side, printed under t-shirts). Got a G26. Gave it to my wife and got myself a G27 (40 S & W) and, the LGS had a good deal on used G22 (also a 40). Wife wanted something slimmer, so I got her a G43. She loves it! Loves it so much, I got her a second one as a nightstand gun. When I got that for her, I saw a drop-in 357 Sig Barrel for the G22. Instantly my groups shrank to 1 1/2". Took off the thread protector and they shrunk to 1". Next came a 357 Sig barrel for my G27 (Making it a G33). Now my groups were one large hole (with a called flyer or 2 per magazine).

I still prefer Colt SAA, Ruger Blackhawks (for field carry), etc. But I carry a Glock because, as ugly as they are, they always go "bang", always hit where pointed, easy to work on, don't require tons of work (my wife's has less than $100 worth of "snap-on" parts).

Did I mention they are ugly?

I just don't have the hands to use the Glock. I have large palms and short fingers, something the Glock grip geometry doesn't consider. I've shot a number of different Glock models in all calibers, except the .45 GAP. Mechanically, they're a great pistol, ergonomically not so much..

Companies like H&K, S&W, and Ruger have all designed pistols with interchangeable back straps, and even grip panels. I've bought several S&W M&P's and they're the most comfortable I've found.

I own an M&P Compact in .40 S&W, and installed a Storm Lake conversion barrel, so I have the best of both worlds. I also own a M&P .45 with the 4" barrel, and it's a wonderful fitting pistol, far better than the Glocks.

A large "cottage" industry has arisen so folks can get their Glock grip frames altered to fit their hands. Is Glock listening? Even the FBI in their 9mm pistol specifications more or less eliminated the Gen 4 Glocks by stating that no finger grooves could be on the pistol.

I have a hard time telling the differences between a Glock and a HI-Point the only difference is the price.

I'll play devil's advocate here and say that if (1) the gun goes bang every time and (2) the bullet goes where the gun is pointed... then there is actually not nearly the difference between brands that we really want there to be. Some last longer than others or have better triggers. They are different sizes and weights and handle recoil differently. But in the end, when you're at the range with a gun that doesn't jam and is acceptably accurate, there really isn't THAT much different about the shooting experience.

All that being said, I have no interest in owning a hi-point. ;-)

I have a hard time telling the differences between a Glock and a HI-Point the only difference is the price.

If you shoot a Glock for 60,000 rounds you will learn. The Hi Point will fail long before reaching that. I will not even mention the accuracy since I do not know your level of marksmanship.

Guess I shouldn't even mention my "outdoors winter carry" a..... Sig 245.......... it only holds 6+1....3.9" barrel and has a grip that will take 3 fingers..........even with 2 extra mags on the off side...... only 18+1 ( OK maybe 23 if my spare mags are 8rd 220 mags with X-grip adapters ).....

....how have I managed to survive all these years????????????

:D

I have a Glock 30 and love it! But beware if you are going to carry it you better have a good belt and holster. The weight is about the same as a 1911 but it is not spread out. The gun can become very top heavy in the wrong carry setup

While you're at it, why not a Glock 30S, instead of a Glock 30? Thinner slide, same capacity...

That said, a Glock 30 is not a compact pistol like a Shield, or other similar sized guns, so I don't get the comparison... As for carrying the 9mm vs. 45ACP, all depends on what mood I'm in. Either is very effective if placed properly. I do believe that the .45 ACP packs more punch, but of course, you get more chances with the 9. ;).

No offense, comparing a Glock to a High Point is just foolish. I trust that the comment was just an attempt at off handed humor...
