Why are m&p mags so expensive?

I lied. It was Botach. They're listed at $19.95.

Ordered from Botach April 23, and they are in the mail due to arrive any day. A CS rep emailed me back stating that they FINALLY received a shipment from S&W just recently. That makes sense because S&W have been swamped with the rebate orders. I bought 4 17rn'ders @ $19.95 ea. for the range. That will bring my mag count up to 10.

I had previously ordered from Greg Cote... they are very fast shipping out... great to deal with!

What is the difference between the 10 rd and 15 or 17 rd mag's physically I mean?

Externally, none.

Internally, they are blocked to lower capacity because your nanny state said that's all you can have.

Up in Canada, the M&P mags can be found for as "cheap" as ~$47 Canadian at the right stores. And that is on the lower end of the price scale for mags. For comparison, I used to have an HK which was ~$90 per mag. With the dollar about par, I have been buying mags from Brownell's because even with the international shipping, it's still cheaper.

Oh and mags for my Walther P99 are about $70 a piece. I just have the one spare since I shoot either 9 or .45 most of the time and my P99 is .40

The magazine is at the very heart of proper feeding and functioning.

Magazines are assemblies, incorporating different parts which have to function together so optimal feeding timing is achieved.

This is not where you want to cut corners on design, manufacture, quality control, etc.

Ever price Sig, Walther or HK magazines?

The last time I called to order some spare M&P 40c magazines I was told they were awaiting delivery of the magazines from Mec-Gar, BTW. Mec-Gar is known for quality and provides many top quality gun companies with their 'factory magazines'.

I stopped worrying about investing in the best quality magazines I could afford many years ago. It's worth it.

S&W has always provided excellent quality magazines with their centerfire pistols.

If I can save a couple of bucks on new factory mags, or mags made by the same vendor who supplies the factory mags, then I don't mind saving a couple of bucks ... but I won't scrimp and try to cut corners by using something else. (The 1911 magazine market is another story in itself.)

I look at magazines as being replaceable assemblies when it comes to all my pistols, though, meaning they can become damaged or worn in ways that may require replacement during their normal service life. Sometimes some of the parts may require replacement, too, like springs, followers, butt plates or inserts. Once the mag body is damaged or worn, though, it's time to discard it and replace it.

Maybe not for the private owner who lavishes great care on them, and never willingly subjects them to conditions which could damage them in the same manner as when other folks are using similar guns and magazines as regular service weapons.

Magazines are important, though.

This is a great bit of information and deserves a thread of its own. Magazines are expendable with heavy use and springs need replaced eventually.

Thanks for the lead from Botach, I just ordered some mags and pants! They have 15% off right now also.

Same with Colt. Same with Sig. The answer is "Because they can."
THIS, unfortunately.

However, as stated before, this is your ammo supply device, good quality mags are your lifeline. Same with quality ammo. I'm pretty sure that if there were chicom crap mags available, I wouldn't buy them and would stick with factory mags, even at $30+. JMHO

Private sale on AR15.com.

Every now and then, there will be someone that sells their M&P and then blows out their remaining mags.

ahhh... nuts. nice deal tho.

anyone else have leads on reasonably priced magazines?

24.95 plus shipping is the best deal i've seen so far for the 10-rounders i require. (you know what state i'm from... :( )

botach tactical only had the regular cap magazines, no 10-rounders.

thanks!

I have an M&P9c that I use for carry and IDPA and I have a half-dozen magazines for it, all OEM. When you do a tactical reload, sometimes dirt gets in them and they jam and you don't have the time to disassemble and clean them on the range.

Yea, the 10 rounders are tough in 9mm. I just ordered .45 10 rounders from botach for $18 w free shipping but they had no 9mm in 10 round :-(

That said, M&P mags are no more expensive than any double stack mag.

Still waiting on Botach Tactical

I am still waiting on Botach to deliver the mags I ordered end of October. It was not real apparent when I ordered them that they were out of stock. Not sure I would order from them again.

Do a Google search on Botach...they are a shady bunch.

It's standard procedure for them to take orders for stuff they do not have.

botach tactical scam - Google Search

I'm a Mod over on AR15.com, in the Equipment Exchange. They were a paid dealer there, until they were thrown off.

They came back a year later, begging to be let back on. They claimed they changed their ways and that a new staff was running the show, so we relented and let them back on.

It lasted all of about week, then the same ol crap. We revoked their dealership-again-and they are no longer allowed on the site.
