Why are the E Series hard to find

I have been waiting for my 1911 PC to show up now for 3 months. From what I hear S&W is busy cranking out the plastic guns since that is where the larger profit margin is.
Keep looking for that E series. I love mine!

the only place i usually see them are at collectors firearms or the gun show. I usually see them at the gun show every time i go. Few gun shops in houston even carry smith wesson 1911's for reasons i have not figured out. its usually sig colt or springfield non of which i am a fan of. other then a few sigs.I bought my performance center 1911 at collectors but i usually see 1 at the gun shows. I would go for PC instead since the price isn't usually much more.i know collectors has a reputation of being over priced but at least they carry them.Or unlike other shops that treat you like a second class citizen for even asking them to order something for you.

I've been looking for an E series for a while, hopefully I'll find one soon. I think the polymer gun switch is also due to demand... I find more and more people (especially new shooters) are big fans of polymer frames and look at you funny if you are carrying an all metal gun or *gasp* a wheel gun.

Let's keep reminding them that plastic is better ---

I'll sell you mine for 1 million dollars. (I know you can't see me but I'm doing my best Dr. Evil impersonation as I write this)
Keep being patient, I'm sure you'll find one and it will be worth the wait.

I have been to a number of shops in Houston and E Series are rare. Why is S&W having such a back log?

Because it is well liked, and only 24 hrs per day. There are more than 300 glock 21's available today on GB.. Think of it as a fine wine fermenting you will enjoy it all the more when you do receive it. Be Safe,

The only place in the Houston area I've seen them is Collector's. The last time I was in AJC they had none, and they usually have at least one of everything. Collector's is always full retail but they will get you what you want. I've been going there since the days when they sold more gold coins than guns. Carter's in Pasadena is also good to order guns they don't have in stock. Rex is the manager there and they have gotten my last two hard to find Smiths for me.

1400 seems like a bit much but I guess supply and demand will always determine price. Regardless I still think it is worth it, at least for me my 1911sc e series is my favorite and couldn't dream of selling it.

Collectors currently shows an E series for 1400, and a PC for 1620.

If I can go 1400, I will go 1600 for the upgrade.

I'm sorry but those prices are ridiculously high, the E series should be mid/upper 11s and the PC no more than the low/mid 13s. Kygunco had 2 of the bobtail PCs in this week for $1233.99.

carters country is a terrible gun store. the guys that run that place are so upidy.yes collectors is full retail or more. goto the gun shows you will get the best deal there.

I have to admit the felt recoil with my 10mm glock is less that my 1076 Smith.
However, I still love metal guns ;)

I had a Colt Mark IV series 80 nickel combat commander in the 80's and loved that gun but sold off of all my 45's years back,

Anyway got a chance to handle a LNIB E series Commander length Scandium the other day at a local shop...man O man that is a nice gun had been fired but not carried the ask $1150 .

The rumor I have heard is all these guns are produced in lots. This means they may make 10,000 of a particular model then not do it again for 6 months. The line is moved over to another firearm type. This was the reason given that it took 6 months to get a 625 performance center.

I know you are on opposite side of Houston but Best Shot Range in Friendswood has received several in the past month. Charles will search his suppliers for any particular model and sells at a reseaonable price.

I finally found one at my LGS this morning and bought it for $1,371.59, including taxes. What a beautiful pistol!

LGS said they talked to the SW rep and the rep said it takes time and alot of man hours to make the E series vs the others. I have been looking for an E series for awhile. No LGS had the model I wanted. I finally found one at the last gun show and bought it.
