I am trying to figure out which part is causing some grittiness when I pull the hammer back about 3/4 of the way and would like to operate the action with the sideplate removed. What is keeping me from cocking the hammer with the sideplate removed? Its a model 65. Thanks

Do you have the cylinder removed? If so, pull back on the cylinder release and then you should be able to cock it.

Hope this helps.

If it is just the side plate, and nothing else has moved, there shouldn't be anything preventing it. If you have the cylinder assembly open, or removed from the gun, then you have to pull the thumblatch back in order for the hammer to cock.

Ive tried it with the cylinder in place and by pulling back on the cylinder release with no luck.

If the hammer and/or trigger slide to the right on their pins slightly it won't cock. Push down slightly on both to re-seat them and see if that's it.

Did you dismantled the mechanism...so may be you have remounted it bad. Ckeck the hammer and trigger slowly and watch for the run.
